"today in the bay" stephanie chuang live in our san francisco news room. steph, we understand the department actually says it's working, they are out there trying it. >> reporter: that's right. they're in the middle of a pilot program and already police say this this summer an officer saved a man's life, a man who almost overdosed. is so we're talking about a drug called narcan or naloxone and it's trying to fight this heroin problem that's plaguing san francisco's streets. you can find a lot of need else in plain sight and everywhere in the city. public health officials say the use of heroin is on the rise because of a crack down on prescriptions for ain't killers so now those people are moving to street heroin and that is where naloxone or narcan come in. out reach groups are training police officers on how to use narcan with a nasal kit which reverses the effects of an overdose. >> let's save you from the overdose. we train law
