new york city subway train. a woman believed to be sleeping set on fire and killed in what appears to be a random attack. new york city policeay they've taken a person of interest into custody. the "new york post" obtained a photo as it happened. investigators say surveillance video from the subway car shows the man walk up to the victim and set her clothes on fire with what appears to be a lighter early sunday morning. police say the person of interest game to the u.s. from guatemala in 2018 and they're trying to figure out a motive. police have not yet been able to identify the victim. >>> well, a wild scene at a texas mall on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. a driver in a pickup truck trying to avoid police careened through the doors of a jcpenney saturday in the city of killeen north of austin. police say the suspect, john darrel schultz, ran down people inside the store and kept going. officers exchanged fire with the suspect, killing him. at least five people were hurt. >>> the u.s. navy is investigating how an american f/a-18 was shot down in an apparent friendly fire incident. the jet landed in the red s

no one does it better than the new york city police department.e investigation, but hurt the prosecution of the person involved. we feel we're moving at a steady pace and will have someone apprehended. >> there was a statement that this appeared to be a targeted shooting, pointing to even the equipment, the suppressor on the gun and the way the gunman was laying in wait. is that still the belief? >> we believe it was definitely, placed on our preliminary review, it was not a random act of violence. we were concerned about that when it was first came to light yesterday. but we don't believe this is a random act of violence. we believe this was clearly a targeted shooting. in all my years of law enforcement, i have never seen a silencer before. so, that was a really something that was shocking to us all. so, we are on the right path and we believe we're going to apprehend them. >> it comes at the peak of holiday season, christmas tree lit. people visiting new york, you don't believe they have anything to worry about? >> not at all. our crime has con

. >>> now to a horrifying and deadly attack in new york city. policeay they have a suspect under arrest. as you can see in this picture from the "new york post." after a woman sleeping in a subway car in brooklyn, new york was set on fire. she later died. cbs's tammy mutasa is in new york with more. >> reporter: this was a brutal attack on a woman who just appeared to be sleeping on a public train. and police found that victim when they saw smoke during a routine patrol. horrifying moments inside an f train on the new york city subway. just before 7:30nypd investigators say a woman was set on fire and burned to death. police say as the train approached the last stop in brooklyn the suspect walked up to her, lit her on fire and stayed on the scene watching her burn from the train platform. after the nypd released images of a person of interest, three young men called 911 when they saw the suspect on a different subway. police stopped the train and arrested the man. >> there must be strong, swift consequences on this person, and i use that term lightly,

wednesday morning as he walked alone to the new york hilton midtown hotel where the health insurer was holding its annual investor conference. new york city's policemissioner said the shooter seemed to be lying in wait for several minutes before opening fire. >> the suspect approached from behind, striking the victim at least once in the back and at least once in the right calf. many people passed the suspect but he appeared to wait for his intended target. >> reporter: the gunman can be seen trying to unjam his gun before shooting again, then calmly walking away. police say he eventually ran on foot down an alleyway, fleeing on a bicycle. >> we will not rest until we identify and apprehend the shooter in this case. >> reporter: investigators also believe the suspect left evidence behind at a starbucks just moments before the killing which could provide critical information about the shooter's identity. brian thompson's widow says the ceo had received death threats in the past. at this moment detectives say they have uncovered some rants against big pharma. they're not directly at unitedhealthcare. in the meantime, police are speaking with family
