residents living in fremont, union city and newark could all be affected.epends what happens at a meeting at the alameda county water district. obviously, we're in a drut condition so the district is telling people to conserve but the catch 22 here is that it is reducing the agency's income. it's projecting an 11.7 million shortfall, in fact. to generate more money the board is considering a tiered rate structure based on how much units of water each household uses. a unit is defined as 748 gallons. there would be no surcharge for homes that would use up to 16 u nipts per water but between 16 and 30 units residents would be paying $5 extra per unit and more than 30 gallons, $6 or higher depending whether this proposal passes. according to the contra costa times, the board could consider other ways to save. you can see some of the plans that are urging people to save water. but the district is also considering having construction projects halted. of course, this decision will be made tonight here at the meeting. but it will be put up for a public vote and th
