i walked into the newsroom and all around the newsroom are pictures of dena and chandler. i kind of looked around and thought okay, welcome. so i decided i was going to go there and i was going to get out in front of the newsroom. i told them right away i want to assemble the stuff and i went out and basically said okay i'm a journalist, i'm here and i think i can help you guys and i basically tried to be honest with them. it appeared to the journalist that, you know, they will give you a fair shake. they travel in the fairness and balance and if they think you are honest and they will give you a chance even if they can't stand to which a lot of them probably looked at me like that. and so i basically did that and we tried to do it. but all throughout the industry you have to understand people -- we had gone through three or four years of trying to figure out the right size of the news room, how to downsize the news room. there were real economic winds blowing through the whole industry forcing all of us to do a lot of things we didn't like and that included laying off peo

anne makovec is in our san francisco newsroom with more. ann, take it away. >> reporter: today we are expecting to hear more from police. they are planning to release some of the names of the people who were killed in the attack. and the national guard is going to share some of their history including whether they fought in any wars in their lifetimes. right now, we only know it was three national guardsmen and a woman who were killed. this was the scene right after that shooting at the ihop restaurant in carson city at around 9:00 yesterday morning. witnesses say the shooter, eduardo sencion, got out of his van, shot a woman in the parking lot, stormed into the restaurant and started firing an automatic weapon. they say at one point, the emergency exit alarm was set off and he took off through the back door. he shot at a few surrounding businesses and then killed himself in the parking lot. we heard last night from one of sencion's family members, who didn't want to go on camera, but said sencion was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia b
