we're joined by nia-malika henderson.s for being with us. >> it's great to be here david. >> any incites on the romney campaign as tried to decide what mattered most? >> they are obviously feeling very, very good almost cocky about that strong victory down in florida and they feel like the strategy of carpet bombing newt gingrich and baiting him which is essentially what you saw mitt romney doing in those final days in florida. we would talk about how angry newt gingrich would be. and if he could bait him into this back and forth, he would get this genuinely angry newt gingrich. but those debate performances mattered a lot to the opposition. he has these brand new coach, so he has had a very strong couple of days, obviously very damaged coming out of south carolina, but really turned things around in florida, and looked strong going into nevada. >> and yet here we are the day after and we have the that romney gasp, i'm not concerned about the very poor. are you surprised romney keeps going off of script or is that his scr

nia-malika, even in the party, they are being kind of critiqued kind of harshly. what happens when they get out of the primary process and has a party that, at best is demoralized? >> well, you know, i think the republican party in 2009 in electing michael steele to head the rnc was trying to have a more big tent philosophy in terms of their party. diversify the ranks in terms of adding blacks and attracting latinos to the party. i think that's where they'll have to go back to. and even george bush. he was able to get something like 44% of the latino vote. meaning he was able to win by about 3 million. he had a base strategy but also a latino strategy. i think that's what you'll have to see from republicans if they have a hope of having some sort of broad coalition that looks like america. suburban women, latinos are going to be very important to that. and we'll just have to see how this candidate or this nominee is going to have to shift to the middle more so so they can get some of those latino votes and those key swing states. i think the president is, obviousl

what's all of this indicating, nia?ell, it's indicating that romney, to a lot of republicans, is still a fragile front-runner. he looked like he gained some momentum coming out of florida and then wrapped up nevada. then ran into santorum's three-state streak. now he's running into problems in michigan. i think even if he wins michigan, it's probably going to be a close race no matter what. i was campaigning with santorum last week in idaho. and he was saying that he expects to come in second which would be pretty good for his candidacy. it's proportional balloting. i think this talk of a brokered convention reflects his general sense that romney hasn't been able to close the deal among conservatives. and he's seeming like a weak candidate. he's not very good on the stump when it comes to the sort of feel your pain aspect that a lot of presidential candidates have to master. and he's not necessarily good at giving speeches. he makes a lot of gaffes. i think people are very concerned. i think the likelihood of a brokered
