let's get to the center of the tension in washington with hans nichols and msnbc correspondent garrett haake who is on capitol hill for us. garrett, let me begin with you. it's been about 90 minutes or so. we heard from adam schiff, what is their next move now that they've been blocked from this testimony. >> reporter: this is testimony that had been sought voluntarily from sondland. that will almost certainly change to testimony he'll be subpoenaed to give. i'll expect we'll see in the not-to-distant future, file a subpoena for gordon sondland and documents in his possession. sondland had text messages on his personal device he had given to the state department but not to congress. those will be things that schiff and investigators from the democratic house want to get their hands on. this impeachment effort may continue even if they can't. you might see them lay out refusal to cooperate with the subpoena as another article of impeachment about obstruction. schiff talked a little bit about that with reporters a short time ago. take a listen. >> the failure to produce this witness. the
