let's bring in cnn correspondent nick valencia. because nick there have been those demonstrations at the intersection of north avenue and pennsylvania. that's where a lot of the rioting began. that's where there was a celebration yesterday. what's the situation there now? >> that's where we're at right now. as a matter of fact victor we're at the intersection of north and pennsylvania avenue at the cvs pharmacy site of the infamous looting on monday night. from what we saw a few days ago, stark contrast the mood here very tempered it's a different tone than what we've seen over the last couple of days. as if the city has sort of -- breathed a deep breath collectively i want to bring in a resident here. ray smith, you said you came down here to this cvs to see what happened. >> do see what happened. i have to catch the bus down this way. >> you're taking pictures we saw you taking pictures. what do you think of what's left behind? >> it's sad, i never shopped in here, but i catch the bus sometimes during the winter months because i c

nick valencia and athena jones are here in baltimore with me. nick the governor says he is drawing down the national guard. are you seeing any signs of a pullback from the national guard? >> reporter: not where we are. we still see that national guard presence. we were told earlier about two hours ago that withdrawal or that winddown will continue to happen. it might not happen as fast as some people in this community would like it to. many here expected to be a part of this 3:00 p.m. faith-based coalition. to continue the conversation surrounding the death of freddie gray. a couple of people in attendance here law enforcement executives. you have a unique perspective. so much criticism has been put forth on the baltimore police department. do you understand that criticism? >> i understand the criticism. i don't agree with most of it. simply because you are talking about human beings doing their job under serious and difficult circumstances most of the time when working in some of the city's neighborhoods. not getting the cooperation you need to

nick valencia has mr.s celebrations in the streets. >> reporter: over the weekend in baltimore, a much different seen as we saw a change in attitude as demonstrations turned more into celebrations. earlier sunday an interfaith coalition group held a rally here to really bring together people who wouldn't normally spend a sunday together. hours after that, we saw a group of about 600 people from all ages across the city of baltimore come here in or the of a marching band context. they wanted to put on a show for the people here who stayed after that rally. this is the first day in the city that it has not had a curfew. a 10:00 p.m. curfew since tuesday. at a press conference early sunday the governor spoke about that in detail. >> we have started to withdrawal the guard. trucks started pulling out this morning. we brought in 4,000 people this week to keep the city safe. brought in 1,000 officers. 3,000 members of the guard. and 3,000 volunteers to help clean things up. >> one of the most pertinent questions

nick valencia is on that part of the story. nick what more is the governor saying about this drawdown of national guard troops? >> we heard from him in the last hour talk about the presence of thousands, upwards of 5,000 national guard troops majority of which will continue to stay. it's going to be a slow unwind according to both the mayor and the governor. this isn't going to be something that happens immediately overnight. that imagery will continue to stay here. those national guard troops will continue to have a sort of presence here within the city and other areas outside of downtown. he spoke about it more in detail at a press conference a short time ago. >> it's been a very hard week. we kept everybody safe. since monday night, we haven't had any serious problems. i just thank everybody in the community for their help and keeping the calm keeping the peace. we couldn't have done it without them. it's going to take a while for us to get totally back to normal. i think lifting the curfew is a good idea. it's been a rough w

our nick valencia is with them. nick what are you seeing?ther more and more. they're gaining a little bit of momentum. there's a lot of space in between the protestors in the front and the protestors in the back. it's also a very diverse crowd. that rally just wrapped up at city hall. . the plan we've been told by some of the organizers here is to take this march to north avenue and pennsylvania. that's the scene of where the cvs was burned down and saw some looting on monday night. their energy is being focused on trying to reform the police system. this is not just about black lives i've been told. really about humanity. you see signs here about wanting to transform the peoplement back there, if you can make that out, a person has a sign showing a number of people they say have been murdered by police. by and large, still very peaceful. we do see a state police presence. as you can see, they're allowing these demonstrators to go through their process and leaving them at peace. we haven't seen anything so far. we'll continue to monitor this

right to cnn's nick valencia. calling it the most violent and gruesome scene he's ever dealt with in his 35 years on the job. what happened? >> reporter: certainly concerning and shocks especially jake when you consider this happened in the middle of the day on sunday. what police say happened is in the middle of the afternoon about 12 i12:00 an argument broke out over a parking spot apparently but could have been much more. things escalated and police anticipated trouble, knowing that biker gangs would have this meeting. they prepositioned 18 police officers here and a handful of agents from the department of public safety with texas. they exchanged gunfire with the suspects they say quickly taking control of the situation. at the end of it nine killed. many more injured. the situation here very tense still. a large perimeter has been put around this area with only local law enforcement officials, as well as media, allowed inside. jake? >> nick police keep saying they're concerned that violence will continue. why

let's find out more from nick valencia in waco this morning. good morning, nick. >> reporter: good morning, carol. a new development breaking overnight. one of those biker gangs involved in sunday's incident was planning on having a weekend event but that's been canceled on the advice of the local sheriff expected to take place two hours outside of waco. that will no longer happen. three men are taken back into custody. jim harris juan harris and drew king. they were originally charged with $50,000 bond. they posted that bond. police wanted them back in custody held on a million dollar bond and got them back in custody with the help of the u.s. marshal service. things slowly creeping back to normal here at the shopping mall. we saw police remove remaining vehicles and motorcycles here after sunday's shootout. in some cases they had to break into cars and remove weapons from those cars. today they are planning on reopening this strip mall. we've seen businesses reopen for the first time since sunday. carol? >> nick thank you. >>> north korea says

let's go to nick valencia, who's at the jail there in hattiesburg. across town at this vigil, i want you to break down the charges and tell me about these suspects two of whom could face the death penalty. >> reporter: yeah four suspects now in custody. two of them are brothers. we'll break down the charges. marvin bank 29 years old, charged with capital murder along with 22-year-old jonie calloway. curtis banks charged as an accessory. he was believed to be in the car at the time of the shooting. yesterday afternoon a fourth suspect was also taken into custody. that's cornelius clark believed to be charged with obstruction of justice. what's unclear right now at this hour is the motive why these four suspects would have been involved in a police shooting. we perhaps could learn more information, more details about that if prosecutors lay out the details at this 4:00 p.m. eastern arraignment right behind me here. the community in hattiesburg, as you mentioned, hasn't had to deal with this in 31 years, the loss of lives of police officers. over the wee

nick valencia has more now on sunday's celebrations. >> reporter: over the weekend in baltimore, a much different scene as we saw a change in attitude as demonstrations turned more into celebrations. earlier on sunday, an interfaith coalition group held a rally to bring together people who wouldn't normally spend a sunday together. after that, we saw a group of 600 people of all ages come here in sort of a marching band context. they wanted to put on a show for the people here who stayed after that rally. this is the first day in the city that it has not had a curfew since tuesday. at a press conference, the governor spoke about that in detail. >> we already started to withdraw the guard. we brought in 4,000 people this week to keep the city safe. we brought in a thousand extra police officers. 3,000 members of the guard and 3,000 volunteers to help clean things up. >> reporter: one of the most pertinent questions still remaining is when the national guard willfully withdraw from the city of baltimore. the governor did announce they will begin to unwind, but there has been no timetable

nick valencia is in cleveland. be specifically -- specific. what does this mean for cleveland's police department moving forward? >> reporter: according to the mayor, he called this a transformative time. he was on hand as well as the department of justice civil right division and attorney of the civil rights of ohio. they say it will be a new way of policing based on trust and accountability. specifically they say it will include an independent monitor to make sure the requirements of the agreement are made. civilian oversight of the internal affairs department and a big highlight to all of this during the press conference was police training especially when it comes to mental health. they say already 500 of the 1,300 officers in cleveland have received the mental crisis mental health crisis intervention training. another 100 officers expected to receive that in the days ahead. another important note is by year's end, all police officers in the city of cleveland will have body cameras. and according to the mayor, it will make it the largest m

cnn's nick valencia is covering this for us. you're getting new details this morning? from the ministry of interior for the government of saudi arabia. they're talking about the details of friday afternoon's attack at that shia mosque in saudi arabia saying in part security men suspected a car when it was heading to the car parking adjacent to the mosque when the security men approached the car it exploded killing four people where one of them is believed to be the driver and spreading fire to a number of cars. now the government of saudi arabia has not officially named 22-year-old abdul jalil al arbash as one of the victims, but his family is saying he was a hero. that there were hundreds of people inside the mosque at the time of the attack and if it were not for him, more would be dead. he was 22 years old, he was taking electrical engineering classes at wichita state university. his family says he was in saudi arabia to get married. he talked about him at a memorial service held this week. >> his move in saudi arabia was bravery. because of the bravery and heroism

cnn's nick valencia is in waco with more. >> reporter: we're standing by for the latest press conference from the waco police department with sergeant patrick swanton who has over the last three days been updating the media on latest information here on the scene. of course that shooting leaving nine people dead. 18 people injured. 170 people in custody still. each with a million dollar bond. you mention that so-called green light hit out on police officers. they tell me they are on heightened level of alert and believe these are credible threats against uniformed police officers though they tell me they're prepared no whatever next. very tense situation here in the strip mall parking lot where that shootout happened. police have established still a perimeter. not allowing the public in. all of the shops around me still closed at this time. only media and other law enforcement officials allowed. interestingly enough we saw moments ago a bomb sniffing dog sniffing for bombs in cars left behind. police are gathering evidence. earlier this morning motorcycles continue to be removed from the

nick valencia is live for us in texas. police still going through all of the evidence there? >> reporter: that's right. and new information just in to cnn within the last hour saying they're looking for three men who were originally arrested and detained in a $50,000 bond mistakenly released. these men are dangerous. they want to be brought back into custody according to police under the million dollar bond. we're learning more about the individuals involved in the coyotes tick scene on sunday. police telling me that a majority of those arrested and killed were from outside the waco area. many bike gang members came here for this coalition meeting that police knew was going to take place. chaos began when a gang showed up. someone got their foot run over. there was another squir mish going on inside 2009 peeks at the time. and that gun fire was exchanged between the biker gangs and the police. 9 people dead, 18 injured. 170 are in police custody. they were worried and around about threats. those threats have toned down 0 enthey don't believe more biker gang members are coming

nick valencia is live in waco with more. how is it looking this morning? >> reporter: a heavy police presence and active crime scene as you can see behind me. they established a perimeter around this strip mall. we heard from a police spokesman with waco police department about 170 people arrested as a result of this shootout yesterday. many are being processed right now in the local court. all will be charged with engaging in organized crime. some will face capital murder charges. what we know about what happened yesterday is that at about 12:00 p.m., police were anticipating some trouble. they knew a meeting was going to take place between motorcycle gangs here. that's why they were on hand. many marked vehicles were here but that didn't stop the brawl from breaking out. they tried to encourage twin peaks to stop the meeting from taking place but didn't get cooperation and adding to tension here today is a threat against law enforcement officials. biker gangs are making credible threats against law enforcement officials threatening hits against their liv

nick valencia is in waco with the latest on this. what more are we learning now? >> reporter: one of those is a retired police detective with the san antonio police department. his name martin lewis. we reached out to the san antonio police department. they say he served for 32 years. at one time was part of the vice unit and acted as a detective. on his facebook page, lots of comments about biker events and photos of people in bandidos gear and back here at the strip mall, things are getting back to normal. we saw police officers remove remaining vehicles and motorcycles from the scene and in some cases they had to break into those cars. some of those cars actually had weapons inside of them. today things as i mentioned are a little bit more normal than what we've seen. businesses have reopened for the first time since sunday. >> it's interesting, the cossacks one of the biker gangs that were involved, they canceled a party for this weekend. >> reporter: they have an annual event every memorial day two hours outside of waco. the suggestion of local sheriff there
