let's bring in nicole mitchell for more on what to expect. >> that system as it moved across the gulf coast, over 100 reports of severe weather, with him pressive in february. a lot of that wind reports, as well. that system, portion of the system at least 20 through now the line of storms kind of through the keys pretty much but pushing off the coastline, it's the northern edge causing more problems now and of course it was doing the same thing yesterday with the freezing precipitation. right next to the coastline, an influx of warmer air. temperatures in a lot of cases in the 50's, that is definitely rain. behind the system where the cooler air gets in, 20's and 30's, meaning a mix of freezing precipitation and snow and that's sticking a little bit more than our prefers systems because of that last round over the weekend of frigid air froze to the ground. if you get the freezing rain, it really is sticking to the ground, making things slick. we have different winter weather advisories, including next to the great lakes, places that could go over a foot of snow because it is close en

let's bring in nicole mitchell, is the weather now bringing any good news total west coast?le farther south this time. clearly the east coast is the more active right now. a lot of what that come in has come in to the northwest. when you have get farther to the south like california, not too much more than a typical winter. we should be wetter in the winter, these are the wet months but a lot instead has gone to the northwest. this next system bringing more rain to california is definitely beneficial. this is more into the day tomorrow we get bands to the south. i'm not talking a heavy dousing rain in a lot of cases. a lot of the coastline, maybe a half inch, quarter inch, isolated spots as much as an inch. it's northern california and northward we're talking three, four inches or more, but definitely every little bit at this point helps. higher elevations, portions of the sierra, we could be talking snow. really it's going to be the rain. the northwest especially washington state where we've already been getting bands recently, that we already of flood concerns. this is the

let's bring in nicole mitchell for more on that. >> reporter: this is the front. it pulled through, but then a storm that moved its way up the coastline, and that's what we are dealing a lot of people would happily get rid of this particular system. right now it is snow anywhere from the mid-atlantic northward into new england. the higher amounts are the closer or the farther out you get to the atlantic, and then the farther north. a lot of these temperatures are right at this freezing mark. it's a little slushy in some cases as it hits the ground, and with temperatures going up through the day a lot of this will melt pretty quickly. here are some of those places that could get bigger totals. boston, 4 to 8, up in to maine, 8 to 12. i mentioned the developing area. this clears out. that front is still lingering and by the time get into tomorrow, we could have redevelopment once again, anywhere from florida up to about north carolina, watch for potential rain during the day tomorrow. and finally, hopefully that is the end of everything. besides that a little snow f

let's bring in meteorologist nicole mitchell for more on that. >> good morning. the system cleared the east coast, the west has been quiet. i mentioned how quickly this would get quiet. across the country, not a lot going on. we can start to see the cloud cover coming in, there are a couple of rounds of moisture, one area in the pacific, one moving on to the goat line, that is what we'll deal with. that moves in later today. there's a break and as we get later into the weekend, a second round of rain. neither of these are looking like potent storms, but rain and snow. as the first one pulls out across the country, it brings moisture to the northern tear. not looking like a widespread storm, but could have minor impacts for us. this is how the weekend look, the first system gets interior in the day, and by sunday, it starts moving across the country, bringing areas of rain and snow, to the north. a lot of country is quiet. and temperatures warn, the cooler temperatures around the great lakes, they go up a couple of degrees for tomorrow, but the midwest starts to g

but the picture is very different on the west coast, let's bring in nicole mitchell. are we all hoping we're on the west coast right now? >> it's been that way for the last couple days, at the very least if not forar good chunk of the winter. very active, the eastern side of the country, very inactive or relatively so. temperatures kind of the same. we've been above average, 10-20 degrees above average, low temperatures will be falling through the east. still some rain and snow this morning and you might remember us telling you about that fishing vessel that washed up on the rockaway beach area. here's video. the report was initially at 2:0d lifted people out by helicopter. the weather then, they had wind gusts in the 40 and 50-mile per hour range, so imagine trying to navigate the seas in that and 10-12-foot swells, but it was also low tied, so there could have been low ground that was very difficult to see, so weather definitely being looked at as a factor. getting back to the map, these 50s are falling through the day for a lot of the east coast as the cold air com

nicole mitchell has more. >> this has been a very potent system over the last couple of days.s is going back in time a little bit. all of these pinnings, especially the orange ones, the oranges are different areas with wind reports. we had over 300 wind reports of high and damaging winds, a lot of trees and power lines down, and of course a little bit on the southern edge of this, there were also those tornado reports. the severe weather has continued to clear out through the morning. today, though, we still have areas that have seen anywhere from michigan into ohio, down the appalachians, still picking up some snow. most is light and winding down, but because of that and the wind it is still going to cause us concerns. so today is still a little rough, by the time we get into tomorrow, though, we actually clear out the region pretty nicely. this tomorrow system has been plaguing us for a few days now, really since it got started in the south on tuesday and then trekked its way up the coastline, so a nice dry break is definitely appreciated. in the meantime temperatures will b

let's bring in nicole mitchell for more. >> you might want to open the refrigerator to get warmer. >> it's the time of morning you go out and say seriously? >> a lot of people will be hanging out in the sweat pants this weekend. here's the broad picture. we still have areas of snow. another little disturbance coming through as far south as southern appalachians could see snow, another system from the northwest will impact more folks over the course of the weekend. that's the broad setup, but already, we had cooler temperatures coming in across the northern tier, from the dakotas through portion of the northeast, with temperatures anywhere from the single digits to the 20s. but we already have wind chills below zero as we get towards the plains. by this weekend, temperatures themselves will go sub zero for the northeast. those are the actual temperatures. between that new low moving off and high pressure moving in, you get a funneling wind flow through the north bringing in cold air. that cranks up all those winds gusting in the 20's especially saturday into sunday morning. that means

let's bring in meteorologist nicole mitchell for more. >> it's not a lot of snow.ould think that's not a problem. it's the high winds blowing it around. this is where we have our next system coming through the midwest starting to move more into the great lakes now. another one suiting up the coastline. i'll have more on the details of that coming up in the next half hour, as this moves forward, there is also, you can see the radar giving those mixes from the ohio river valley into the appalachians, a little ice in some places, not an ice storm. that's the worst condition when up get the ice first and snow over it, because you don't know it's slick underneath. a lot of this is only going to be a couple of inges, that's not too bad. look at this core of high winds. traveling interstate 29 between the dakotas and minnesota getting into nebraska picking up high wind gusts, you can see omaha, winds gusting to 35 miles an hour but i've easily seen gusts over 40 miles an hour, causing problems. the areas highlighted in red is where we have the different blizzard warnings

let's bring in nicole mitchell for more of the bad news. >> of our team i'm maybe the hardiest in theweather. >> you're from minnesota. >> when i come in in a full length parka, everyone is concerned. keep all the warm stuff handy. we have already had temperatures that have gone anywhere from single digits in minnesota to the 20s in the northeast but the wind is starting to pick up once again. that's going to be one of our big problems and already making it feel like subzero in somewhere like fargo and tomorrow is going to be that coldest morning with this shot of air. once we get through the next couple of days it's going to be sunday morning in the northeast and we still because of that wind flow have some significant areas of lake effect snow. so if you're under one of those bans, another six inches to a foot, not out of the question, the next couple of days with this and another disturbing southward, south carolina, if you get two or three inches that's enough to cause problems. i mentioned sunday morning for the northeast. zero in new york city, minus 12 once we get towards montr

let's bring in nicole mitchell for more. >> a lot of travel advisories out. if you don't have to go, definitely the best idea. we can see on the radar that this is starting to wind down a little bit, not as much snow today. if you're getting it, you're most likely seeing it in wisconsin. the u.p. of michigan could get the most. yesterday we were talking close to a foot in a lot of cases. less snow today. the wind is driving us around and we have what is on the ground, so that three or four inches would be the new stuff, that's the very northern tier. a lot of this is lighter snow today. we still have wind as a concern because with this system. that is going to blow what is already on the ground. that is why we still have advisories up, including back to wyoming which is well out of the new snow. that is a ground blizzard with wind gusts of 60 miles an hour blowing it enough that you can't have that visibility. still treacherous even well after the storm. the other we are watching is into the northwest. that will be snow for the higher helevations and places l

let's bring in nicole mitchell for more. >> we just haven't been getting a break in central and southern california which we'd like to shift a little of this rain southward. the drought situation for washington state has been eroded over the course of the winter. it what been beneficial for some areas. you can see a little gap and another one coming in right behind that and as we look to the long term, another behind that. the one system will continue to move across the country, light areas of snow moving into the midwest the next couple of days. as the next one moves in, that's going to bring the potential for heavy rain through the weekend. watch for the half foot totals to get to the foot mark. the higher elevations we have different advisories out here. the cascades for know six to eight inches not out of the question. portions of wyoming, it's still on going from the last snowstorm, still high winds, still through this morning, we could see ground blizzard conditions, just because the snow is still blowing around. >> and still not what they wanted to hear. >> no. >>> shell oil is cu

let's bring in nicole mitchell. nicole. >> i don't really even have to preface this now. feels cold out there. look at some of these feel like temperatures, once you add in the cold wind, a lot of these temperatures are above zero. it feels like minus 18 in minneapolis, minus five in chicago. a flow from the north is sucking in all the colder air all the way through the south. this is how this moves the next couple days. it just shifts to the east a little bit. by the weekend, the east will get the coolest temperatures, more into the 20's for some portions of the coastline, but dex the coldest air will be around the midwest. 24 today in chicago, that drops into tomorrow. as far south at atlanta, temperatures in the 30's, possibly with all of that cold air funneling in. you'll feel a change with all of that. that's the same in these areas, around the lakes and higher elevations, we'll get more of that. a lot of people are asking because it impacts boating--voting. in new hampshire, one system moves out, light stuff could move in later in the day but mostly it's a good elec

let's bring in nicole mitchell for that story. nicole. >> good morning. it's at that point out of the west, and that is the setup. ahead of this, it's a southerly flow and strong one at that, a really big pressure gradient when the pressure changes dramatically, you get the high winds. in pores of the southern plains, you can see the flow switch around to the south, winds gusting over 20 miles an hour in some cases. it's going to be more profound to the rest of the day. northern plains and coming out of the rockies could be hurricane gusts, bad for high profiles. red flag warnings for fire danger in february because not only are the winds, but we have a low humidity with that southerly flow coming more out of mexico versus the gulf flow. high temperatures, wichita, lubbock into the 80's today, those would be records. the warm air spreads into portions well into even the rockies, billings at 61 degrees today, so that system will cause a number of problems as it moves across the country. >> and it's moving east. >> it is. >> nicole, thank you very much. >>>
