california highway patrol is mourning the loss of one of its officers after a deadly crash of the nimitz freeway on christmas eve.33-year-old officer andrew camilleri and his partner were watching for impaired drivers on the freeway north of highway 92 when a red suv slammed into the back of their patrol unit. >> the impact was so severe that it turned the utility vehicle into a compact vehicle. that gives you an idea of the speeds that were involved. >> both officers and the driver of the suv were taken to the hospital. officer camilleri died a short time later. sadly come he is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons. the other officer was treated for injuries and has since been released. the driver of the red suv was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. he is seriously injured and will be booked on several felonies once his condition improves enough to transfer him out of the hospital and into jail. >>> two people are recovering after a single car crash christmas day and san jose. northbound interstate 280 near 10th street. the crash left the driver's

officer andrew camilleri was killed on the nimitz freeway while on duty leaving behind a wife and three young children, his body taken back to his hometown tracy yesterday and now the message takes on increased importance as the state begins licensing commercial nonmedical maul beginning january 1st. law enforcement has been training and preparing. >> nearly 1,200 law enforcement personnel locally and more than 3,600 chp personnel receive advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement training or a-ride which significantly helps us in identifying the signs related to impaired driving from drugs, alcohol or a combination of both. >> reporter: the chp said a drug recognition expert who has gone through extensive training to detect drugs and some through a 12-step process. it's still not as definitive as the 0.08 blood alcohol level when it comes to driving under the influence of alcohol, but they say they do have tests and many ares and they are taking zero -- measures and they are taking zero tolerance come january 1st. >> juliette goodrich live on the 680 freeway, thank you. >>> this mo
