mitsubishi was building these cars for nissan. you have to question nissan as well.products under the name, you'd think they would check feel consumption figures and whether they held veracity. i you would think so, but guess they really trusted to be she on that, but their trust among the industry will be gone, just another stepping stone in losing trust in each other, and also the regulator losing trust in the carmakers. this is bad news for everybody, not only mitsubishi. >> is the regulator putting too much pressure on these carmakers, if you will, to get these fuel consumption figures down, and particularly to get emissions levels down as well? ati think we have to look the regulator and how do we reduce the emissions, how do we improve the environment, but we also need to make sure that the carmakers can follow-up, but in this particular case, mitsubishi's case, it was not a rocket science -- it was not rocket science to come up with a better fuel consumption, so in this case i cannot fold the regulator in this case, as far as i can see. it is the carmaker. whe

nissan in mitsubishi were working on the next generation of those models, and nissan came across thisancy, went to mitsubishi and suggested they look into this. mitsubishi did its own investigation and reported this issue to japan's transport ministry. this involves more nissan models than mitsubishi, but mitsubishi is saying it will take full responsibility for this issue, because it developed and did all the production of these vehicles. it's really just an arrangement where nissan takes the mitsubishi car and puts its badge on it. francine: the share price is down 50%. are there parallels with the vw scandal? >> certainly with just the way this transpired, it was an issue lab,al-world versus in the so it really raises questions. there has been increasing pressure about making real-world testing more of a part of how we evaluate the fuel economy of models, so certainly this is only going to add to that conversation. that has more parallels to do and hyundai and kia ford, who did some similar things with improper testing of their cars and claiming higher fuel ratings than they did. a

two models were sold by mitsubishi and the two others produced for nissan. they say the manipulation came to light after officials at nissan pointed out problems with the data. officials at toyota motor are anxious to get their assembly lines up and running again following the series of earthquakes in southwestern japan. the car company suspended assembly lines at most of its group plants around the country after the quake struck. it plans to resume operations in phases starting on monday. toyota officials say they want output to resume at the company's main plant as quickly as possible. the strong tremors also forced a major parts supplier to suspend operations, which disrupted supplies for toyota. officials say they think they'll be able to secure enough parts by relying on domestic ntorinves and through other means, but they say some other assembly lines, including those in southwestern japan prefectures will remain suspended until next thursday. \s >>> let's get a check on the tokyo markets. share prices ended higher r the second consecutive day but trad
