>> some parts of the north bay could get some rain, but we can already see the cloud cover increase over the south bay as we take a live look outside from the cupertino hills overlooking the south bay. it has been mostly clear for much of the morning, but now we're starting to see the clouds rolling in. it's going to make for a very picturesque day. let's get a look back at some of the rainfall totals from over the weekend. most of us barely got any sprinkles but there were some spots that had a decent amount of rain. it was in the north bay mountains up around mt. tam. we had half an inch of rain and there was .4 inchin the berkeley hills. san ramon had a good downpour with an inch of rain there and san francisco less than a tenth of an inch of rain and we barely measured anything in san jose. it was .05 of an inch. that's what a lot of us in the valleys got including dublin. so as we take a look at what's going on right now, it is drying out. the sun is back. temperatures nice and cool behind that very strong late season cold front that moves through. so today you're stepping out and y

in addition to the north bay valleys as well for your sunday afternoon. very unstable atmosphere with this storm that is going to sweep through the bay area tomorrow. and we also are tracking some pretty breezy winds around 30 miles per hour or let's take a look. hour by hour with this storm widespread light rain will start to arrive for those of you in the north bay shortly before 7 o'clock for your sunday morning and for the rest of the bay area. we're going to see some light to moderate rain by midmorning, even continuing through your sunday afternoon. if any pop up thunderstorms, do form. remember we could see not only the threat of thunder and lightning but also hail gusty winds and heavy downpours if any storms do for by sunday night into monday morning. that storm threat out of the bay area. so we're expecting lighter rain totals, but any amount of rain will help, especially to help delay the start of our fire season just inching closer with these warmer and drier temperatures heading our way. more on that in my full forecast in just a few minutes.

the north bay first, 7:00 in the morning. as we roll through the day on sunday, that rain starts to move through the peninsula and the east bay. eventually to the south bay. and then this will start to kick out of here by sunday afternoon and sunday evening. so pretty decent totals, considering it is a late season storm system. it is really not going to do much to help the draught, but we'll take anything we can get with our fire season. down towards the south bay, the blue color for san jose. for a lot of the east bay, especially near the mountains and the elevations, the peninsula and the north bay, we're right in the quarter to a half inch zone. not too bad there on sunday. sierra right around a foot for the summit level. if you are traveling to the sierra on sunday and early monday morning, be ready for those winter conditions. seven-day forecast in san francisco, we do clear out from this. next monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday as those 60s start to return. and across our inland valleys, hang on. it's a wild

the north bay.morrow morning, more of the moderate rainfall through the north bay. you can see it preds a little bit south to the east bay, as well. but lunchtime, if you are heading out, you want an umbrella, in case you are shot under the showers. by the evening, most of it gone. there could be a stray shower on monday. here's the rainfall estimates. a lot of places about a tenth of an inch. a little more in parts of the north bay. with the rain com snow. in the sierra, we're expecting up to two feet of snow in some of the highest peaks. expect travel delays. you don't want to travel there right now, through monday morning 11:00 a.m. overnight throws in the upper 40s to low 50s. and tomorrow, a narrow band of temperatures will feel much cooler than average. we're going to drop down compared to today. oakland, 57, as well as san jose. everybody in the 50s. low 50s at the coast to upper 50s for the inland areas. it's wet and breezy, you may want the turn it on to abc 7 and watch the oscars and catch

the north bay like sonoma county. don't be surprised if you see some drizzle up there and then nighttime should be. all right until sunday. that's when the rain will arrive early in the morning. so this is around 6.30 can see even a band of moderate rain falling the north base going to get the most amount of rain from this system. we're going to get up to an inch of rain. and then the rest of the bay area like the east and the peninsula we can expect to get about half an inch of rain from this system. and as you can see, the sierra here will be getting some fresh powder, high. highest elevations the sierra. we'll see over a foot of snow from this system. again, this is sunday around 7 o'clock and then it does dry up the following day and it looks like we don't expect to see much rain. the few days after that. as you can see here, a week from now will actually be pretty warm for us in the bay area. we might see the 80's. but in the meantime, here's a look at our high temperatures for today. 70's for antioch in concord.

we have seen some issues fog, cloud cover blocking out visibility in the north bay. e east bay and parts of the peninsula this morning. so not looking at chances of rainfall in sight. this ridge of high pressure has been keeping us consistently dry. and that's why we haven't just been dry the entire month of april. so far. but much of february and march for that matter were well below average as far as precipitation goes and april looks to be an even drier month in comparison has now we work our way well into the mid april in the midst of no chances of rainfall. we are seeing an onshore breeze. so really the only moisture we're tapping into the bay because that breeze marine layer, which is scooting on inland across the bay area this morning. that's why you are seeing some great conditions this morning skies will clear out nicely into the afternoon for a bayside inland areas. well, the coast remains a little foggy and cool even into the afternoon. this means a cooler day in golden gate park sunset district as well as right along the coastline. we're your daytime highs

tam, some of our upper elevations in the north bay.y hills had 0.4 of an inch of rain and in san ramon, quarter inch of rain there, san francisco tenth of an inch and a few sprinkles in san jose as well as parts of the tri-valley. a lot of our valleys didn't get much rain. as we take a look back at the drought monitor, just a couple weeks ago, the drought and where we see the bright red showing the extreme drought was just in parts of the north bay, but then we got the update on thursday, showing that the drought is now expanding and much more of the north bay in the extreme category and also including parts of contra costa county, and the reason why we're seeing more of those drought restrictions, definitely being top of mind and part of the conversation as we are also seeing the severe drought expand for the rest of the bay area. and now we're in those months where we don't get a lot of rain here, and heading into april as well as may our chances of actually getting more rain continues to dwindle, as we approach some of our drier mon

bay. that quake, just downgraded to a 3.6 magnitude. this happened just before 10:00 p.m., northill. at a depth of 4 miles, which is relatively shallow. people across the south bay, though, say they felt that shaking. as you can see, the quake was just east of the fault. so far, no injuries, no reports of any injuries or significant damage. let's get to meteorologist, rob mayeda, who is tracking that for us. and also, rob, the incoming rain. >> yeah. if we could go over to the w side two computer. you will be able to see that earthquake that did affect areas northeast of morgan hill. that was a 3.8 quake earlier, was just downgraded as you mentioned to 3.6. and what you will see here are the shaking intensity map. lot of folks on the coyote valley, morgan hill, san jose, up to santa clara valley, but it's also interesting to point out parts of the east bay, up to heyward, livermore, even to brentwood and stockton might have felt a little bit of minor shaking. again that 3.6 earthquake that occurred there to the north of morgan hill by about 9 miles. our other story tonight, of co

still going to get rain in the southbay but we will get more in the north bay and then an interesting aspect, by the time we got into tomorrow afternoon, and most of the storms ave cleared the bay area, there is an area of concern for anybody who will be in the central valley tomorrow, basically more so the sacramento valley the san joaquin valley. anybody going up five. everywhere in red here. there is an increase risk for thunderstorms as the system comes through, just the way the wind gets funneled and twisted and turned through the sacramento valley. you can get a lot of areas where the wind convergent just the right way up there. this time of year, we cannot only get thunderstorms, but maybe even of those weak tornadoes that we see almost regularly now. with everybody having phones. tomorrow would be the first day of the season where that could be a possibility. but back here at home that is not a risk for us. and there is rain, about a quarter of an inch of rain falling for much of the north bay. watch how much lower the numbers are in the southbay. very typical, probably a 10th
