and then as we get into monday 4:00, the heavy rain is in the north bay. it sinks to the south. ve got a very strong line of rain. rain showers to the east bay, the south bay tuesday morning. it's a nasty commute with the gusty winds and then 2:00 in the afternoon the oranges arrive. the reds arrive even stronger winds here. this is 530 that evening. commute on tuesday into the east bay by the evening seven 8:00. kind of treacherous out there. rainfall today, very little peninsula and south bay, maybe a 10th to 2/10 north bay into the east bay. we add in monday night. that's when that heavy rain has arrived in the north bay. so an inch and a half, a third of an inch elsewhere through monday night. and we're adding in tuesday. now we've got nearly four inches around ben loman two and a third, san mateo over to san ramon. how about mountain view 1.93. so this tuesday system a pretty big one. so 30 mile an hour winds go down to about the upper 20s throughout the afternoon. then monday morning they get elevated. still look at those gusty south winds 30 to 43 miles an hour. and then w

so they're going to get the rain up in the north bay. and then this is monday. m wants to come on board later in the day, monday and into tuesday. and finally, we're talking about significant rainfall in the south bay. so with that system coming on board later in the day, monday and into tuesday morning, that will boost the rainfall rates across the entire bay area. flood watches continue for the entire bay area until 10 p.m. on sunday, and we will likely see more flood watches into early next week. so here's the setup for tomorrow. we are expecting this more rain focused up in the north bay. not as much as today, but still some rainfall. scattered showers for the rest of the area and then on monday monday afternoon evening rainfall develops and it could be heavy at times, especially monday night and into tuesday in the sierra. they have a winter weather advisory in place around the lake tahoe area until 10:00 tomorrow, and the snow levels all weekend. they've been really high, around 8500ft. so lake level, they've been dealing with a lot of rainfall for today. w

but generally the bulk of this rain will hit the north bay until tomorrow and even tomorrow. gions of the bay area will not get much out of the system tomorrow. nonetheless, a flood watch flood. yes, flood watch remains in effect until 10:00 tomorrow night for the entire bay area because the soil is saturated and we have these ongoing storms, streams, creeks, small rivers and roads could see some localized flooding as we expect another 1 to 3in of rain and over in the sierra. a winter storm watch and a winter storm advisory in effect for much of that region, as another 12 to 18in of snow could accumulate from this storm. overnight lows, mainly in the low to mid 50s. highs tomorrow right around 60 to 62 degrees for much of the bay area. but as you look at the accuweather seven day forecast, you see stronger level two storms monday and tuesday. a little bit weaker on wednesday. but right into the end of the week, we have storm after storm coming our way with maybe sunshine, maybe next saturday. >> the at&t pebble beach pro-am has always been an event where the stars and celebrit

not too bad if you are coming out of the north bay right now traffic is moving pretty seamlessly acrossden gate bridge. starting with a positive there. thumbs up for the drive there. north of there out of petaluma, novato, a few brake lights, but nothing too bad, no crazy accidents or incidents to slow you down. bay bridge toll plaza though, that's backed up and you have got bumper-to-bumper traffic here. this is very typical for this time of the morning with those metering lights on. you can see that carpool lane though moving along pretty well. so always a good idea to share the ride if you can. and westbound 80, we're tracking a few brake lights, there's a hotspot there through san pablo gets a little bit better coming out of hercules, but once you are heading into berkeley and emeryville a few brake lights in that area. other than that, it's kind of typical along 880 into hayward and if you are taking that westbound 580 route over into the castro valley y traffic is moving along okay and northeast of the bay area bridges with the exception of the bay bridge looking pretty good. 92 s

north bay communities are going to be getting in on the majority of the action. doesn't mean the rest of the bay area is out of the clear. because we do have flood watches in effect as there is the potential for some heavier rain and especially in our low-lying areas that are used to flooding. you're likely going to be seeing it over the next several days. this atmospheric river is going to persist all the way through tuesday of next week. we're going to continue to see widespread rain. but it's kind of overplaying it. it's going to be that low hanging mist and fog rather than the heavier rainfall. the heavier rainfall now, likely is going to be arriving monday and into tuesday. let's take a closer look at timing of that upcoming system. again multiple systems are under way. the one today is going to be bringing some rainier conditions for the pebble beach pro am. an umbrella is necessary for those who want to head out there. just cloudier conditions as we look at the northern river is going to be across northern california. throughout much of the rain throughout

you can see those heavier pockets that we saw earlier in north bay. we're generally seeing it a little calmer by comparison right now as well as some light to moderate rain having pushed into the rest of the bay. so all in all, this isn't so bad, but things are wet son. you know, the drill slow the role as you're getting out there. 40's to low 50's right now. really, most importantly, as the rain jacket this morning, it's not super chilly. in fact, this is a rather warm storm will be in the 50's this afternoon between a quarter of an inch, an inch of rainfall today into tonight with rain increasing into tomorrow reyna. all right. on the internet, looking at those bridges and things are looking a little damp out there. if you are traveling, like john just mentioned, slow your roll. no need to speed. >> 60 min arrive. everybody making their way to the city now around 14 honor san mateo bridge. we had a traffic hazard there in that slows down just a little bit. but no accidents are still moving along nicely. 8 along the richmond, sandra fell bridge. now l

event without any rain elsewhere across the north bay area. looking at a chance of at least light showers making their way into the santa clara valley. that is a trend that will continue into friday late afternoon and evening. we are not talking about any flooding potential but this will help saturate the ground. and subsequent waves move in, that is where we have the potential for maybe a little too much rain in too little time. we are talking about estimates that bring us over 1 1/2 inches of rain in san jose to over 6 inches in parts of the north bay around santa rosa. the boom and bust amounts indicate the high end of the reasonable range of possibilities, and it is still a wide range because this is still a evolving weather pattern for san francisco. we expect about 3 1/2 inches of rain over the next seven days but of things shipped barely 1 1/2 inches of rain would fall. but if we had a jackpot, potentially more than 8 inches of total rainfall. things could go in either direction. it is going to be a stretch of wet weather. the question

north bay peninsula right there for the east bay. going to take some time to get to the south bay through the afternoon. we should get some spotty rain. and then as we head through tomorrow evening, we're looking at some scattered rain in the forecast. will then see it pick up with what looks to be some heavier rain as we head into saturday. so rainfall totals on this. we're going to run this all the way out just through sunday. and you can see the difference here. south bay likely rain shadowed maybe only a half to about three quarters of an inch. but as you head off to the north, you can see how those totals certainly step upwards right around two inches in oakland, maybe close to two in san francisco, 2 to 3 up there towards the north bay. so let's break this apart day by day tomorrow. i don't really think it's going to be a big deal. it's our first day of getting the rainfall. so from san francisco southward, it's a half inch or less up to the north bay. it's a half to about 1.5in highest numbers right up there towards guernevill

they're elevated in the north bay mountains. rth or northeast, and that's an offshore flow. and then as we get into the second half of the day, you'll notice still those clouds wanting to hang on to parts of the east bay and the south bay, mostly sunny skies to the north, but eventually the skies clear. we get the winds from the coastline and building up some fog. the next couple of days there's a look at our winter weather advisory. it's been cold enough to make snow just a couple of inches here at lake level, but upper elevations 4 to 6in. and looking at those gusty winds. so the cold mornings maybe helping out in terms of the snow department. but this is what we really need, right. the help from mother nature as we get into friday saturday this takes us into the middle of next week, where a couple of systems could provide some welcome rain here. highs today. still on the cool side, but much brighter out there. and those winds dialing back certainly in the north bay 59 in san jose. look for upper 50s for you in richmond. so not

of the clouds yet, but that will change the next several hours, the first showers moving into the north bay before the sun comes up spreading across the rest of the bay area tomorrow morning. the heaviest rain falls tomorrow night into saturday with its first peak of a double-peaked atmospheric river, off-and-on showers in between monday and the next wave of moisture arrives monday night into tuesday. let's look at the floor map here and track what's going to happen as we head through the next 48 hours or so. this first animation takes us from midnight through 10:00 tomorrow morning. this first band of moisture will evaporate on the way down. the showers that come in before the sun comes up hit the ground in the north bay and spread pretty far to the south, but your chances of rain inland in the east valley and santa clara valley remain low the first half of the day. as the rain continues, it will make more progress even into those rain-shadowed spots. from 10:00 tomorrow morning to 8:00 p.m., you can see how widespread the rain becomes. there are some gaps, but keep the umbrella and rain j

most of the day, anywhere from a 2:45 quarters of an inch already accumulating over areas of the north bay. and then you get into the central and south bay and it drops off pretty dramatically. but you can see light rain, and it only takes a little bit of light rain to really mess up the evening commute. so there could be a lot of stop and start going on out there at this hour. meanwhile, if we head over towards the sierra, snow levels are climbing. expected to be right about 7000ft and above 1 to 2ft by the end of the weekend. and there is a winter weather advisory getting up over those passes along i-80 as well as highway 50. a better look at the timeline of the rain expected for the weekend. and as tom alluded to, more expected for next week, i'll have that in the extended forecast. >> all right, rosemary, thank you. a peninsula teenager is recovering from serious injuries at a local hospital. >> all this after he collided with a garbage truck as the driver was backing up on a san bruno street surveillance video showing the moments just prior to impact as that boy was riding a scooter.

so morning breezy conditions in the upper elevations of the north bay. through 10:00. then partly cloudy skies as that low departs the next few mornings. a freeze watch for the entire bay area through wednesday, except the city and the coastal north bay. the marin county coastline. and then by the end of the week, showers increase. a couple of systems may head our way come friday into the first weekend of february. here's a look at the winds offshore 20 to 30 miles an hour through 8:00. still pretty gusty. point reyes olema half moon bay and they stay elevated through about noontime. so this is the upper elevations and lower elevations. it has been a little bit breezy as well. then as we get into the afternoon hours, those offshore winds turn more to a north northwesterly component and that onshore flow takes over and that will build some of the fog, bring temperatures up as we get into the middle of the week. there's a look at the cloud cover. you notice it's still wants to hang on to the east bay, the south bay, even the peninsula. while we are mostly

in the north bay village.olice are teaming up with the chp to crack down on sideshows and reckless driving. >> police say that the chp will help new operations in vallejo on the weekends enhancing the number of patrols on the streets there, adding that these extra patrols allow them to more easily stop the sideshows and hold the suspects accountable. this team of this coming after vlachos i 200 cars sideshow on saturday night. the chp track down some of the participating carson only for them, we're told and then placed on a night a 30 day hold. cars that were impounded for that amount of time could face a total of over $2000 in fees. officers say 300 people attended and 2 of the people involved were arrested and 13 others have been cited. in san francisco. an apartment fire has left 8 people without a home in the tenderloin. the fire happened late last night on top floor unit. this was near the compass children's center. they didn't find anybody inside the building and the cause of the fire is now under invest

north bay, lesser amounts in the south bay, a 2:45 quarters of an inch sunday would offer more rain,low totals. san francisco southward, it'd be the north bay with about a half to another one inch. so the big target will be marin, napa, sonoma counties with this. so i wanted to show you how the russian river in guerneville is going to fare. right now it's right around eight feet, but it does look like by sunday night and into monday could get up to about 20ft, not flood stage, which is 32, but we'd see additional rain next tuesday and that could get it even closer to flood stage. so this is one to watch. and if you're headed up to the sierra, wanted to get this warning out here 1 to 2ft over the past level. so be careful saturday and sunday on the 7-day forecast. you see it right here. those on and off chances through wednesday. i really think the days to just be on alert here would be saturday and next tuesday. that's our best chances of widespread heavy rain for the bay area. get your houses ready and your umbrellas. like you said, it's back. thanks, jeff. up next, how silicon vall

we're going to see some more rain tomorrow, mainly tracking to the north bay. and you know, well to the north of us here, all that activity and then another system expected to drop monday into tuesday. a slight break here on wednesday and another system coming our way now as the system's role in throughout the week. it's going to be a colder system. so that's why we're going to see more snow in the sierra. we're expecting about a trace is a bit of rain for, you know, the south bay, but about a quarter of an inch and up to an inch elsewhere, mainly more activity in the north bay. and this is from now in total the end of the week. so any where between one to 3 inches by the end of the week, which of that those flooding concerns breezy conditions tomorrow. so pack that jacket with the hood and also, you know, will be breezy. so unsettled weather tomorrow. and for days and then maybe a break next weekend as the week goes by, we could see the temperatures trend cooler as well as that, you know, cold air from the arctic coming our way. a lot to look forward to. that's

light to moderate showers at first in the north bay, spreading across the bay area in waves, pockets of heavier rain, but no flooding issues to this point. the ground and vegetation are dry, so it's absorbed this first peak which isn't peaking yet. that happens later tonight. we'll look at that momentarily. let's look at the current radar perspective which still shows widespread light to moderate rain coming down at a good clip in san francisco, but not overly heavy at the moment. let's talk about how things evolve over the next few days. i'll have to drop the radar out of the way. you're looking at a very foggy, cloud and rain shrouded bay bridge. the flood watch goes through 10:00 p.m. sunday. there is time that's more likely to result in the flooding threat. the heaviest rain falls tonight and saturday and then showers on sunday, not as heavy or widespread, but still wet. be very flexible with any outdoor plans. the next peak of this atmospheric river arrives by monday and tuesday of next week. let's return to the floor map and talk about how things shape up through the rest of to

we do have fog in the north bay. to that, coming in as a cold storm is moving through california. storm tracker two here. fairly quiet. it is dropping in from the north, so not packing with it. a lot of moisture at this point. a few sprinkles will be a possibility for us. a little bit of snow in the sierra as i'm moving closer. fairly quiet. we may have just a few sprinkles falling below the radar beam. likely to see an uptick later this afternoon into the evening hours, and more so for tomorrow. but all in all, a quarter inch or less expected for the bay area. here's a look at the futurecast model. if we keep an eye on the center of this system here, parked again over us, but then as it shifts south towards southern california, it retrogrades a little bit more and kind of nudges towards the coastline. and even off the coast of point conception. here's tomorrow afternoon. and notice the circular motion going on right in here, allowing it to tap into a little bit of moisture from the pacific. and that is what it will l

evening through 10:00 in the evening saturday on futurecast with the first showers moving into the north bay before sunrise tomorrow and the rain spreading out across more of the bay area, especially with the heaviest rain falling friday night into the first half of saturday. this is the first atmospheric river and the first peak of a double peaked atmospheric river that's going to be heading our way. i do want to show you the amounts we expect with the first peak of the atmospheric river. for most locations around the bay area, between 1 to 2 inches of total rainfall, but the north bay between 2 to 2 1/2 inches of rain with the first wave moving in tomorrow and saturday. let's look at the atmospheric riverside of this. the first peak would rank as an ar2 on the 1 to 5 scale, which is a relatively weak atmospheric river, but it's going to be followed up almost immediately by the second peak in this atmospheric river which by itself would be an ar1 on the 1 to 5 schedule. you combine these. it's going to be an ar3. we can't rule out flooding, but it doesn't look like a significant flooding th

so right now, our storm tracker illustrates that rain across the north bay. when it moves across the entire bay area. there you have the clock ticking on by nine 10:00 in the morning hours, and then towards the afternoon it slides to the south and it interferes with your evening commute. and then all night long, it's a hit. it's a miss shower. there's your saturday morning. official sunrise is at 713. not going to see it. you're going to hear the raindrops on your rooftops. a bit of a lull in the activity on saturday afternoon. look it right there as all this begins to dig into easterly fashion. and then saturday night, this is the big question mark. if the jet stream moves more to the north, we will see bigger breaks on sunday. right now, again, it's a widespread occasional shower, but if that jet stream sags more to the south, then your sunday is going to be a complete rain out. and this is why our computer models are painting your forecast page like this. as far as your rainfall totals are concerned, by sunday, over an inch and a quarter of precipitation i

you can see them over the berkeley hills, the peninsula, persons, the north bay in the inland east bay. now, lot of us are taking a bit of a breather. rainfall is making its way directly in from the west. and there is plenty more where that came from. and it's especially going to be seen up in the north bay areas like santa rosa guerneville north from there. we'll see our very heaviest of totals. she can see projection show that continued rainfall well into the afternoon tonight on into tomorrow. in fact, tomorrow, your saturday, it's going to be the biggest impact of rain for the weekend. the washout of the weekend. so make sure if you're getting out possibly for any sort of events going on across the bay area that you are ready to go for, what will be a significant rainfall through the day tomorrow. now futurecast does show snowfall only at the highest of elevations in the sierra tomorrow. tomorrow is absolutely this warm atmospheric river type of storm sunday. we see it scaling back for the bay as the moisture plume pushes a little bit further northward, but reverses course late mon

and then for sunday, the bulk of the action could be focused up in the north bay. then it moves across the heart of the bay area later in the day, monday and into tuesday. rainfall projections through wednesday will be adding up in the coastal hills of the north bay. could be around 8 to 10in. down in the south bay could be around 2 to 3in. so there's a lot of rain. and especially for the monday tuesday we'll have to keep an eye on things because that's what we're already adding some water to the creeks and streams right now, but we're going to add more into early next week. here's the satellite where you can see hawaii's way back here. here's this moisture plume going across the pacific and focused in northern california, as i mentioned, and already producing some rainfall today, but nothing too major. here's a look at the radar imagery. as you can see, still some scattered rain across parts of the bay area for tonight. just outside of san jose, right around san jose and milpitas. here is our live camera. we're showing you some of the current numbers out there. we

a couple of showers showing up saturday morning in the north bay. en by 3 p.m, even parts of santa cruz, the south bay getting in on the action. spotty showers into saturday evening and going into early sunday. not expecting widespread showers, but it will be spotty over mount hamilton. could even see a light dusting of snow. this is all done after sunday morning for the bay area. rainfall projections anywhere from nothing measurable to about 12 hundredths of an inch there. in ben lomond. this does turn to snow in the higher elevations, where a winter weather advisory goes up in the sierra tomorrow morning to sunday afternoon. dusting is possible down to 3000ft, but 4 to 6in above 5000. so your passes are impacted. gusty winds. slippery conditions. chain controls are likely looking at southern california. this is going to be the first winter storm for southern california. they're going to get soaked. they're going to get the snow in the mountains. but this of course with the rain does pose the risk of mudslides and debris flows because of the recent

area. 2 to 4 inches in the north bay. g up in weather. >> and it is a rainy day across much of the bay area. so we've got rain drops on the lens in san francisco. many of the bay area camera lenses have raindrops on the right now here you can see behind me, it's sort transamerica. pyramid and one big raindrop. all the rain is coming from the atmospheric river that says sourced all the way down in the hawaiian islands. and that is what is bringing all of the moisture right to the bay area. it's been more of a northern california trajectory. but at times this atmospheric river goes north a little bit. and then we see a little less rain in the bay area and then it goes south little bit. we see little bit more rain in the bay area. today's a day where it goes north a little bit. so not quite so much rain for us as we're going to see say tomorrow into tuesday. but there's also wind to can think about because the wind gusts are pretty impressive. the death a 31 mile per hour gusts, half moon bay. 32 very gusty in the napa valley

let's shift to the north bay. take a look at a few more numbers here. i'll step out of the way. 63 sebastopol, 60 degrees reported in petaluma and 61 fairfax shifting over towards the inner east bay. temperatures ranging from mid to upper 50s across most areas. we've got 59 lafayette, 57 in dublin and toward the inner east bay, 60 degrees right now in brentwood. temperatures for many much warmer compared to yesterday, even by six degrees or so. livermore, san jose up by five in novato, as well as mountain view there. we're going to remain with this very pleasant weather for at least a few days. and then another opportunity of rain coming our way. on the back end of the business week. we've got calm conditions in concord, novato, just a light breeze in napa and fairfield reporting a north breeze 13mph. so light winds, plenty of sunshine and temperatures a okay, here's a look at what's going on. a view from up above. even a little bit of northeast flow as we head over toward southern california. scattered showers continue here, but the flood watch for the

that would be for the north bay coastal hills. that's over several days, but still some periods of heavy rain. and there's the chance we could have a flood watch being issued for parts of the bay area. take a look at the rainfall projections, kind of the breakdown here. and clearly the focus is up in the north bay. but still san francisco could be over, possibly over three inches of rainfall. so something we'll be watching closely over the next few days in the sierra. snow levels relatively high up above 7000ft. but a winter weather advisory in place, as you can see from 4 a.m. friday until 4 a.m. sunday and snowfall could be around 12 to 18in. we mentioned a flood watch here. all these areas in green from friday afternoon through sunday night, and that does include solano county, and that will probably expand across parts of the bay area as the rainfall rates do pick up. right now, though, the clouds are drifting into northern california. here's our live camera looking above san francisco, and current numbers have cooled off into
