it's throughout north carolina. a lot of places like in mississippi, alabama basically anywhere that had poultry processing, manufacturing, a lot of those kinds of different industries that were actively seeking out these groups. so i'm going to tell you a little bit about one of these folks. so joanna sandoval was one of the many latinos who moved to dalton in the 1980s. she was born to mexican parents in the united states, and she up in michigan and came to dalton after graduating from college in the 1980s. this she wasn't able to find work despite. her ability to speak both english and spanish fluently in her college education. she felt she was blocked from these jobs because she was latino when she arrived in 1980, she was only part of a small community of latinos, maybe about 100 and most of them were poor. few english and many were undocumented. seeing the members of the community who needed service, she partnered with the local church to help residents with immigration. the group continued to grow and began t
