several fires broke out this afternoon in san jose, sunburning only gas but others damaging property. another came close to homes at cleariew and ever sol in north san jose. they were able to stop the fire from growing but not before coming within striking distance of several homes. >> reporter: the fir captain on scene tells me it burned about five acres. you can see what's left of an open field. those acres way too close to home for people who live in the neighborhood here. they didn't even wait for the fire department after calling 911. they grabbed their garden hoses. >> grabbed everybody's hoses because we know there are other fires apparently around here. >> you say scary, yes. >> i just hope nobody's home would burn and you never knew where it was going. we call them a few times to come home and it started on the other side, other neighbor's houses. so very scary. >> the fire department tells me no homes had to be evacuated but the wildlife center did have to be evacuated. the executive director tells me they moved nearly 500 animals to safety. it took fire crews about three hours to put out this fire. abc 7 news. >>> nearby four separate

( marty ) in the east bay... we now know the name of the man who died after a car hit him in richmond. the victim has been identified as 68-year-old maravilla ortega. the accident happened at cutting boulevard at south 16th street just before 10. police closed off the busy intersection for several hours to investigate. police tell us the driver stayed at the accident scene and is cooperating with the investigation. and they say it is too early to say now if drugs or alcohol are involved. north bay. we have a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain near san jose and we are going to see that moving to the south but rainfall amounts becoming lighter. we can see rain moving to san rafael, vallejo, napa, and it continues towards antioch and concord. you're seeing rain starting to move in there and as we get a look at san francisco, some spotty light showers. we've seen it throughout the morning and it continues to move from berkeley and oakland so we'll be tracking the rain that may impact your morning commute and those slick roads will be a factor. >> because as you talked about the north bay saw up to a quarter inch in some areas. this is san rafael. there's slick conditions. if we look at the map farther north i did hair a report, chp filed a complaint -- not complaint but an issue says hydroplaning was involved in one of the crashes up there, 101 south at railroad. a smooth flow of traffic throughout most of the map but you see the green highlighting where the road weather index does talk about the fact you will have slicker roadways, it moves towards the walnut creek interchange.

key spots where we typically see the build, north 87 through san jose. rash still blocks the two left lanes, and we see a slow drive just as you make the split from 85 north through the area, so northbound 17, you might want to go past the interchange, take it back up toward 280 if you can, if you're working west of downtown. meanwhile, the other issue we're watching is the upper east shore freeway. showing a build right now. we should see some recovery. the earlier crash just got cleared from lanes seconds before i made wi my way to the studio for the report. it will be our more gradual recovery because of the voolume. we're try to save you 25 minutes, driving from vallejo to san francisco, instead of using the sloesest of all three routes, almost two hours, the blue one, the purple route across the buniche bridge saves you 25 minutes, even with the slow drive out of vallejo, that saves you about ten minutes as well. you can join our team. make sure you do. we'll check your routes, even though they may be unfamiliar getting to activities that are not sch

it did get wet out there, mainly in the north bay. san jose is going, what are you talking about? we didn't get anything. most of us were in the trace amounts, like livermore, .01. as i mentioned there was up to a half inch of rain up in the guerneville area around the russian river. and the showers are now ending. as you look at the radar you see this is current. it goes back 12 hours. now it is pushing forward so you are watching what happens. it's not a model, it's actually the satellite. you can see some showers still stuck up in the lake tahoe area. snow up there above 8,000, 9,000 feet. cloudy outside. your friday morning starts off kind of cooler than it has. there's going to be plenty of clouds. a cool air mass that has settled in over the top of us. you see the mostly cloudy conditions in vallejo and concord. it is 70 in livermore. that's pretty warm. for all the cloud cover we had, 70 in fairfield, 68 in concord. so temperatures running in livermore and a fairfield about the same, but concord five cooler, santa rosa five degrees cooler. that makes sense. look at san fran

seeing right now out to the north bay. 62 in san francisco, and you can see the cloud topped off to the north where the thunderstorms are in the north bay, and 66 in san jose, and we will show you the line of thunderstorms out towards healsburg. and you can see this is why we can spot prit the san francisco to san jose. the clouds are topping at 3,500 feet. when the storms are that far away, but when they are that tall, you can easily see them from the golden gate bridge. this is going to head down the vallejo in an hour or so, and the progression is off to the south and the east, and this is not going to be droppinging north and south to the bay area, and missing the coast and most of the south bay, but it is this batch over here crossing out to sonoma county, and clipping parts of the east bay, and as you might see, we will see a few sprinle kls at times and into early tomorrow morning, and to the hilltop of the south bay. and once the sun sets, we will have the energy out of the convective storm, and what is less of the showers to move north to south, and see some isolated showers early monday morning around the peninsula hilltops here. and then tomorro
