the weather systems sweeping across the country right now, that heavy rain that swept into north—west england last few hours. a high—pressure is now building in. that will settle things down, at least temporarily. so, lots of clear weather on the way for tonight, light winds as well. now, the band of heavy rain that swept across the uk will be exiting our shores and reaching the near continent through the early hours of saturday. behind it, there is a brisk wind off the atlantic, and we'll have a few showers out towards the west. but generally speaking, it is looking clear. quite chilly first thing on saturday, even in towns and cities temperatures will be around five or six degrees. you can imagine in the countryside, it will be colder than that. the weather for saturday, very little if any wind at all across southern and south—western areas, a bit of cloud building up in the afternoon, but that's pretty much it. it should feel pleasant in the sunshine, around 15 or 16 degrees. more cloud and then the next band of rain is approaching. as the high pressure slips away after that sunny saturday

north and west of scotland will tend to remain breezy. more cloud here with a few showers at times, and there could be the odd shower, northern ireland, north west englandes recover across the north and the west because we've got this area of low pressure sweeping into scotland and northern ireland throughout the day on sunday. so it turns much wetter here, winds picking up to gale force, maybe even severe gale force and exposure. few showers getting into the north and west of england, and into northwest wales at times, too. but for the rest of england, it'll stay dry with plenty of sunshine after that chilly start. a breezier day in the south, but very windy across the north and west with gales or even severe gales, like i mentioned. those temperatures ranging from around the mid teens in the north, again up to 17—18 celisus in the south. that band of rain spreads across all areas during sunday night, but into monday, it will eventually clear away from the south east, and then we're into another ridge of high pressure. so many places will be dry across central and southern areas on monday. a bit more of a breeze, though, across scotland, perhaps northe
