but northeast california, oregon. it's swinging in around a band of higher cloud. pical clouds in southern california. there's an impressive hurricane which i will show you in a second that may play into the weather into the week and the weekend. the water temperatures are very warm. san francisco buoy, 64. monterey, 65. not el nino. it's a persistent southerly breeze keeps waters up and hardly any northwest wind along the coast. hurricane marie, category 4, 135 to 140-mile-an-hour winds. only the outer feederbands might impact cabo or la paz. it's moving northwest at 12 miles an hour. also runs into colder weather. the key is what happens to a lot of the that moisture. the south facing swells will impact. the key is one forecast model took a system from the north, latched onto that and drove it right over us. it's backed off. but we've had nothing but it seems like tropical move since july. i'm not going to kill the system yet. it won't be until probably the weekend if it happens at all. i think it bears watching. a lot of these higher clouds will zip out of here.

a pair of brush fires in northeast california grew ram i hadly overnight destroying eight homes and prompting evacuations. governor brown's emergency declaration has allowed him to ask money for more homes and resources for the forest service. the air national guard is on standby toward launch at a moment's notice. and strike teams from across the bay area are on the move. for the latest, we bring in nbc bay area's christie smith live here in san jose. >> reporter: that's right. these firefighters in san jose are gathering and waiting for their directions at this hour. as you said, a number of firefighters, strike team from across the bay area, left today from places like foster city and mountain view to head out to more than a dozen fires burning across the state. as you said, that number prompted governor jerry brown to go ahead and declare a state of emergency. the air national guard standing by. at least eight home have been destroyed. federal, state and local crews are heading out to fight them. there are evacuations in place. some of the earlier fires are in place striking lightning. a

morning, looking at this shot sitting at home you may think i'm doing a live shot from nap a, california, no, northeast philadelphia, one person's home. see the devestation behind me when that tractor-trailer slammed into the side of the home taking out the brick wall. a lot of work has been done since last night. but if you want any indication that the word on the street here is that this could have been a whole lot worse, see the children's play set inches from the path of the tractor-trailer. we have video of the incident last night, the scene, police say it happened about 7:15 thursday night. the mayfair section here. here's what police say happened. ford suv runs a red light at the corner hereof farnsworth and levick streets. the suv slams into that tractor-trailer. that forces that into the north side of the house, pushing it right through the brick wall. thankfully, again, nobody inside at the time. but both the 55 year old truck driver and the 28 year old suv driver both taken to the hospital, both treated for injuries. i'm told the injuries were minor. we got on scene, spoke to few neighbors,

california. that should funnel the moisture back in from our northeast back across the bay area at times today and especially on into tuesday. so the chances of seeing summer showers, i think the most likely spot as we mentioned will be the north bay and east bay hills. you can see the clouds coming in from time to time, that should increase the humidity and we'll see the temperatures staying fairly mild. cloud cover and the extra moisture in the air through about tuesday. so the best bet for seeing measurable rainfall. that would be rare for august. this is one of the three driest months of the year for the bay area. it does look like the sierra for sure and the heavier showers to the east. but the door space seeing perhaps the most according to the model runs and with the spotty nature of the showers though, some could get a brief downpour. quarter inch of rain or more placed half a mile away sees nothing. we'll see the chance of showers continuing through at least tuesday and the moisture swoops off towards the east. we'll dry things out and temperatures climb for the second half of the week. t
