it happened at the giant at third and h streets in northeast d.c. jackie bensen joins us now with some new details about what happened there. jackie? >> reporter: this has all come into us within the last hour or so. we're going to tell you what we know. d.c. police confirmed they were called here earlier today and arrested a security officer for a confrontation with someone in the store. at one point during that confrontation, the security officer is alleged to have shoved or pushed the person, hence the charge of simple assault. several sources tell us it became apparent that the incident was prompted by the security officer allegedly telling the person who made the complaint, a transgender woman, that he did not want her to use the ladies restroom. the woman got upset, remained in the store. the security officer forcibly attempted to get her to lea, which resulted in the physical contact. now a short time ago we received this statement from a spokesman from giant. it reads as this matter involves a third party that provides security services for

well, we are here at anacostia road and douglas in northeast d.c. it appears that a postal employee didn't like delivering all the mail and so he started dumping it into the sewer. stuffing nil the sewer here. that is where -- stuffing it in the sewer there. that is when they found a wagon full of the stuff. it was postmarked late as may 11. snaking out a clogged drain for a neighbor and he noticed paper coming up. upon closer inspection he saw failed papers and the envelopes as he started to look for a source and found all kind of mail in the sewer. >> maybe somebody was throwing trash. i didn't open it up but it looks like a $1,000 check to go for -- $10,000 check to somebody for services rendered. brad: we saw mail postmarked for a number of addresses up and down kenilworth avenue in this neighborhood. also another street over here. so perhaps people are missing mail and the mail was or still is down in this sewer. the d.c. post master himself came here this afternoon. and at "abc7 news at 5:00", you will see him and hear what he has to say about
