my home area of northeastern pennsylvania still far too many people utt of work. when you add a tough economy still for a lot of people plus the impact of the indiscriminate across-the-boarder cuts by way of sequestration which i believe is bad public policy, we'll talk more about that later and it will be the subject of greater debate than it's been, and then you add thirdly, the impact of a shutdown and then number four, you add the perilously close time that we're living through right now where we're close to a default. so for all those reasons it's been a difficult period for the country and a very difficult period for those who are trying to make ends meet every day. we have a chance in the next couple of hours to vote in a manner that will lift some of that anxiety, some of that worry. i was here this weekend on the floor talking about a letter i had received from a woman in northeastern pennsylvania. she talked about her circumstance and her husband's circumstance as a result of the government shutdown. but then she talked about her parents. parents ages 85

and this is a front that cool air is moving through northeastern pennsylvania, western new york, butwill stop and develop into a coastal storm over the next 24 hours. that's why we're seeing heavy rain here. a storm develops just off of the coast as that cool air comes into the warmer ocean waters intensifying that storm. we'll look at rainy weather here along the coast. temperatures are into the 60s and will continue to climb into the upper 60s before the rain gets here, but then drop. only into the 50s by tomorrow. by tomorrow morning, 40s with rain developing and rain coming down only climbing into the 50s there. this will be the story from philadelphia all the way up the east coast of boston, rain coming down, clearing out by thursday, but cooler breeze remains thursday and friday. two tropical systems may impact japan, and we'll watch that as well. >> dave warren thank you very much. >>> a cargo ship successfully left the international space station this morning. it was its first successful demonstration. the capsule will be used to deliver supplies back and forth. >>> how much

in my home area of northeastern pennsylvania, we just saw data today. unfortunately in my home county, in the county next door and at least one other county if not two more in that region of the state, including the region where bushkill outreach is, the unemployment rate in several of those counties is more than 9%. so this -- a food pantry is not just a -- a place for people that are particularly vulnerable. these are people that have been vulnerable because of job loss, because of the economy. the shutdown has two adverse impacts on those families. it has a direct impact on their ability to access food every day. that's horrific enough. talk about direct and substantial pain, physical pain on an individual or family. but it also has another impact. when they shut the government down and certainly over a long period of time, you for sure -- and this is irrefutable -- you injure the national economy. when you injure the national economy, you make it less likely that those people that have to access the food bank can actually get a job. in northeastern
