tractor tales comes to us this week from northern illinois. this was one of the tractors created by the moline company. the first tractor was manufactured in 1937 as the model z. >> we have a 1954 ube. this tractor, we worked on it. it's kind of one of the workhorses we use. we have done a lot of field work with it, but it's a '54. the farmer actually sits up so he can look down at his crops. vision line actually started about '51 or '52. this is '54. this is one of the last uv's because the next year they came out with what they called a special. it had power steering, which this does not have. this was owned by a farmer south of town. my dad sold this new to a farmer south of town and he passed away quite a few years ago, and he had three or four of these. his son-in-law became ill and he wanted one of the tractors to work, so we did some work for him, and in trade, he gave this one to us for the bill. and so this has been totally redone. we took it down to nothing. there was no paint. this one took just about a year. during the wintertime.

low pressure over northern illinois, with little snow to the north. showers to the south. they dried up before they got here. you may have seen a few drops on the windshield. but primarily all of that activity well to the north and west, as has been the case, pretty much all winter long. most of those low pressures have passed to our northwest, keeping us in generally mild air. as a little snow activity across new york and pennsylvania right now. most of it is very, very light. tomorrow, high pressure will move off the east coast. our winds go back to the south/southwest. mild air, even warmer on thursday. it could get conceivably to close to 70 on thursday. and then this front comes through. on friday. with a good chance of showers. there may be a shower wednesday or maybe late thursday. but most of the rain this week will probably be on friday with the front. and it will get colder for the weekend. but just back to normal almost. winds in the bay, southwest. gusting to 20 knots. bay temp, around 42. and then the advisory for small craft tomorrow out there on the bay. tom

last week, i received a letter from the chief judge of the northern district of illinois, judge jim holderman. his district is one that has been declared a judicial emergency, meaning the backlog of cases is stacking up and the vacancies need to be filled. he was writing me and senator kirk asking that we do everything in our power to move two noncontroversial, strongly supported nominees through the judiciary committee. well, they're moved through. these two who came through a bipartisan process are now sitting on the senate calendar. they are john lee and jay thor thorpe. john lee, my nominee; jay thorpe, senator kirk's nominee. a bipartisan agreement, a bipartisan committee has led to their selection. no one has questioned their ability to serve well on the federal court. what judge holderman wrote to say was the vacancy as that they would fill have been declared judicial mr. president this is a classic illustration. well-qualified individuals having cleared the hurdles receiving strong bipartisan support in the judiciary committee are mired down on the senate calendar. time after time we
