new york on saturday morning. saturday afternoon, snow tries to push and -- in to northern new york. how far north will the snow make it? there will be a shut down in the snow not just here in new england but across the southern tier of new york and southern nothing at all. here's the latest thinking. no real changes from earlier. we have got a chance for a half foot of snow and maybe more in southeastern massachusetts. as we head toward the cave, the islands, the south coast, over toward scituate, highlighting the opportunity for significant snow. boston and the pike, we could still see several inches of snowfall. north of the pike, zero to 1 inch of total snowfall. there's going to be a sharp line. as we head through the next couple days, these might move more for south and we will also probably tighten them up. mold in massachusetts, new hampshire, vermont and maine, this is not a big event for you. the biggest totals, new york, philly, baltimore, dc, roanoke, north carolina. if any of your plans are taking you to charlotte, raleigh, dc, newark, those airports are going to have hug

in northern new york. the area is supposed to get hit in this next round of storms.. the series of storms pushing onto the west coast will continue into this weekend but persistent dry air over the desert southwest will keep most of the area dry this weekend. low pressure will drench northern california pretty much throughout the week but those storms will only throw some high clouds over top of las vegas starting friday and continuing through saturday. that storm will cause a few sprinkles north and east of las vegas saturday afternoon but won't create more than a few showers in the local mountains for clark county. high temperatures will stay largely unchanged friday and saturday courtesy of some thicker cloud cover for the region although low temperatures will rise due to that same cloud cover. sunday clouds will clear out and allow for temperatures to rise to near 60 for las vegas before another system rolls in monday with a shot for showers on tuesday. of the week but these systems aren't very strong and won't have much by way of low level moisture or rain to bri

they upped the forecast for the new york area to 16 to 24 inches. we're looking at the northerns, westchester, new york city, and long island, which are the prime target. long island obviously is problematic more from a flooding point of view. long island is an island, but it's more like a peninsula. so a lot of -- a lot of exposure to the ocean and that's something we're watching. new york's challenge is the snow we can handle. flooding is the worst case scenario for new york. flooding brings evacuations. evacuations are difficult in an area as dense as new york and long island. we have all of the equipment, all the personnel called in. we called in the national guard. so we have the equipment and the personnel ready. i just declared a state of emergency in new york and we're going to see how the weather progresses. right now we have everything open. the roads are eno. the subways and bridges are open. but we'll see how the weather deteriorates. we're supposed to have the eye of the storm at about 11:00 in new york. and we'll make determining as whether or not -- determinations

new york and long island. new york and long island will be right near the northern edge of the heavy snow. we will be on the northern edge of any snow. so that's the difference when you are talking about the big cities in the northeast. right now it is developing, the moisture in the southeast but will start to bump into the cold air. looks like raleigh-durham is in for a brutal storm, with a lot of snow, sleet and freezing as it continues north, it should have started snowing in the nation's capital. it will continue to move northward, it will be approaching new york city. what about us? saturday morning, we don't have any snow here. hough north will we get the snow. mass pike, maybe further north. but it's possible that they'll get rotated back to the south and east as the storm starts to pull out. that's what i mean by us being on the edge. our best estimates for our snow, we are thinking conservatively here. north and west, it could be a dusting or an inch or two. and southern rhode island and southern connecticut could get three to six inches and that may happen on the cape, but the t

it is starting to come into parts of new jersey right now up towards the northern part of new york, the central part of new york, as well. the problem is we're going to see accumulations with this storm. it really depends on where you are on how much we're bog to be seeing. previously with the lake effect snow, lorraine new york off lake ontario saw 32-inches, more is going to be on top of that. here is a look across parts of new york. you can see snow making its way in. northwestern new jersey, you may get a half inch to three quarters inch there. the warnings are out. we're focused on the northern parts of the state especially new england and maine where we expect touses 14 inches of snow. temperatures across the region all below zero. you have to go down to washington, d.c. if you want to get above freezing there. here's the forecast for the rest of the day, more snow across the north. we may see a little bit of light sprinkles as the temperature comes just above freezing along the coastal areas. tomorrow, we do expect to see more lake effect snow for many parts of the areas and temp

we have got winter storm warnings up from northern mississippi to new york city where the blizzard watch is expanded across new jersey and the mid atlantic. so blizzard watch meaning visibilities is reduced to a quarter of a mile or less for 3 or more hours. where is the storm now? up now. so we have a big upper-level low that's spinning near missouri and thunderstorms starting to fire now along the gulf coast states. the storm is going to continue over the next several hours. kind of intensifying here and redeveloping off the carolina and delmarva coastline. snow arrives by the time we get the philadelphia new york city area. for us, we are quiet until then. snow arrives from south to north by the time we get to saturday evening. there may be some mixing that occurs in southeastern massachusetts and out of here by the time we get to early on sunday morning wrapping up. so snowfall totals topping out around 2 feet in parts of virginia stretching back up to dc and felly more like a foot. any jog further north could bring more amounts. for most of us and in fact, we may see a little if any

at the width of this two to three-foot band of snowfall extending through central and northern new boroughs of new york city and long island. such a sharp gradient off to the north. northern parts of the county got just over a foot. so just in a matter of, say, 20 miles it was an 18-inch difference in snowfall. just incredible. in terms of the top snow storms, we were barely number two by a tenth of an inch. still the february 2006 storm which was a much less high impact event beating us out. 31 in middle town. you don't have as much snow pack up there. you're actually mild. 29 white plains. 32 on the island. a batch of clouds moving by right now and then we clear things out overnight tonight. another system off to our west that will move into the day on tuesday. 20s in the park. the snow pack keeps things colder at night, especially with the clear skies and the calm winds. highs tomorrow up to 35 degrees. here is your accuweather forecast for tonight. we're down to about 20. mostly sunny tomorrow. back above freezing like we were today. and then back below freezing. so it's the pattern of a little bit

as we go up to the north we saw temperatures this morning northern new hampshire, northern main. tomorrow morning, new york is going to be 19 degrees for those temperatures back on the rebound. we're going to be hitting 53 degrees by the time we get to the weekend. now to the flooding in the west coast of the united states we're looking at not just one storm but three storms making their way towards the united states. the first one has made landfall, we're looking at a lot of rain for parts of our california. now coming into parts of nevada as well. the second storm right here in the pacific, that will be a factor later on this evening and another one out here towards the west. that is going to be a factor as we go to the late week. let's take a look at what is happening right now as the storm came through. we're looking at some regions getting over three inches of rain. take a look at some video that came in of the flooding situation across the area. some people stuck in cars. some people going through water crossings, stalling out very dangerous situation there. and we're looking at still a lot of proble
