in northern virginia there is a task force that specifically tracks gangs like ms13. we actually spoke with a director who i says they're seeing an increase in violent crime related to these gangs and they're recruiting as young as children in elementary school. they say they lure them through social media as well as parties where they offer them drugs, alcohol and sex. > there are many different cliques in the areas and they have their own local leaders, but yes they get a lot of guidance and orders that come out of el salvador. of course, a lot of these individuals are from el salvador and were involved in h the gang life down there before they came to the us. their weapons of choice are handguns, knives and ma set 's and that's been that way for a long time. sometimes their homicides or their murders tend to be very brutal. you can imagine someone using a ma sheet ' on another person. so n anything along the lines of a ritual. sometimes -- > the director of the northern virginia regional gang task force adds for the most part the crimes committed by these gangs ten

we told you last week the 95 express lanes were to be extended north to 395 in northern virginia. news 4 transportation reporter is taking a look at how theyrk benefit you even if you don't plan to use them. >> reporter: like it or not, express lanes or express toll lanes are now part of the fabric of how we get around in northern virginia. they are here on roads like the beltway, 95 and they are coming to 66 and now the 395 corridor that runs through alexandria and arlington. the commonwealth transportation board recently gave the go ahead to that last part of the project that will connect 95 all the way up to about the 14th street bridge. now, the two hov lanes that are part of 395 right now will be converted to three hot lanes meaning that you'll be able to pay to use those lanes if you're not an hov or if you're car pool you get to use the lanes for free and you're promised a speedy trip of at least 55 miles an hour even during rush hour. >> i think that what the toll road projects provide is more choices. there are some people for wh sense. but having the toll road there puts
