here's a live look at highway 267 at northstar. looks like some fog is moving in. for today, ridge axis moves slowly east the region dry with increasing southwest flow in higher elevations and thicker cirrus spreading across the region. some valley inversions will remain today, although the inversion is not expected to be as strong compared to yesterday due to the ridge axis being displaced to the east by the next trough. this trough of low pressure will bring another relatively quick round of precipitation to the sierra and western nv late tuesday night and wednesday. the winter weather advisories still look good with no changes planned for the forecast snow amounts. this will be a milder snow event with higher moisture snowfall rates will surpass 1 inch per hour at times in the advisory areas, especially during wednesday morning with snow covered roads leading to chain controls and slow travel conditions near across nevada, keeping the region dry with increasing southwest flow in higher elevations and thicker cirrus spreading across the region. some valley invers

from northstar where they are reporting 9 the last 24 hours... a winter storm will continue to impact the region today. a cold front will bring lowering snow levels through the morning with snow mixing with rain possible across western nevada valleys. be prepared for travel impacts in the sierra and western nevada throughout the weekend and possibly into early next week. atmospheric river moisture plume is currently pushing its way across the sierra and into western nevada. heavy rainfall accumulations have been reported along the west slopes of the sierra so far this morning with some sizable shadowing along the east slopes. right along and just to the east of the crest, rainfall accumulations in the 1 to 3 inch range have been reported thus far and a few tenths to about half an inch of rain across western nevada. spillover precipitation will increase through the morning as a front drops south across the region. along with the front will come a sharp drop in snow level which currently is falling below 7,000. caltrans webcams show snowfall rapidl

let's check in with the gang now and roberta, you were up at northstar, what, a couple of days ago and said the best skiing ever. >> i have been skiing in tahoe since the mid-'80s and the best conditions can be experienced right now. i don't want to sound like a commercial for tahoe. it is what it is. i talked to seasoned groomers who have been grooming the slopes for 30 years and they have never seen the conditions so pristine. we are just getting layers and layers and layers of more snow on top of more snow. so if you are heading to the greater lake tahoe area, gianna will be the one to tell you about if chains are required but right now i have to tell you we still have snow on the fly there in tahoe with more coming. mostly cloudy skies over san francisco right now with our air temperatures very mild. it's going to feel the difference out the door from 42 to 56 degrees. hey, the winds are diminishing but will blow today out of the south 10 to 20 miles per hour. it's a dry morning commute a dry lunch hour. it is a dry evening commute and look what happens. this is storm number 8. and
