there is an easterly component at the oakland airport and the oakland hills. 30s and 40s for the temperatures. starting to cool off, livermore down to 41. napa airport, 35. 30s in walnut creek and blackhawk and danville. 42 and el cerrito and lafayette. a little chill in the morning air. 19 in truckee and 38 and ukiah. this er is okay today. winter storm watch starts tomorrow at 4 pm. this will go through friday morning. snow levels north of writing could get down to 1500-2000 feet. the system here has a ways to go. it looks like tomorrow morning, late morning and early afternoon will be the arrival time. lifting before it swings in. rainfall will be one of the best for some although the last system north of the golden gate was very good. not so much to the south. this one looks to be better if this projection is correct. the trend has been to cut back on rainfall projections as we get closer to what. after tomorrow, the forecast looks very dry. if the long-range outlooks are correct, february 1 through the eighth, not a drop of rain as high pressure builds in on the west coast. that's the wa

mayor libby schaaf, oakland mayor. as mayor, i am pleased to be releasing 5 year trends in making oakland considerably safer.at a news conference tuesday, the mayor, police chief, and others involved in crime reducing efforts addressed statistics drawn from the oakland police dept. database over the last 5 years, including a look at some of the highlights from 2017. overall, crime is down, significantly, take a look on your screen - homicides down in 2017 by 15 percent shootings of an occupied home or vehicle down 29 percent and carjacking down by down by 22 percent. anne kirkpatrick, oakland police chief "let me show you, ,the use of force down significantly drop. oakland police chief anne kirkpatrick - a year on the job - said she was pleased with the findings. she and others credited the improvement to a more focused and strategic department and working with partners with cease fire, a crime fighting community and faith based program. however while the figures show safer streets some problems continue to plague the

the center was the berkeley/oakland border near the claremont hotel. anne makovec spoke with several residents who felt the quake. >> reporter: i'm standing by the epicenter of the morning 4.4 earthquake right outside the famous claremont hotel. and this earthquake was felt bay area-wide. home videocameras caught the moment the earth shook at two 39 this morning. this video -- at 2:39 this morning. this video is from becker and this is from nearby alameda. movement sensors turned on the living room light. >> it felt like a giant punched the bill. >> reporter: paul is a nurse at kaiser hospital's icu about two miles from the epicenter. >> the patients that were on ventilators woke up because it was such a big jolt. >> reporter: he said he could see the patients' blood pressure going up. >> you could see everything in the building move with a boom and then a steady shake after that. >> reporter: the shaking woke up people in all nine bay area counties and while no major damage was reported, this broken picture frame was posted on snapchat from san lorenz

the oakland firefighters worked to save it and they did it. they led the horse out of the ravine and up the hill. >>> did you feel it? an earthquake woke up much of the bay area early this morning. >> it was the 4.4 quake centered in berkeley's claremont canyon. the epicenter was just a couple miles southeast of downtown berkeley close to where 24 heads into the caldecott tunnel but as ktvu's rob roth reports, the shaking was felt as far away as reno and monterey. >>> reporter: even those who say they sleep like logs woke up to the jolt at 2:39 this morning. >> i woke up with such a start. it was, um, this loud sound. it got louder and louder and louder and luckily it stopped. it just stopped. >> it shook me. i woke up. it was really sudden. and it's just like instant. i woke up. and it was, like, kind of a an eye-opener. >> reporter: this camera on an oakland apartment building captured the sound of the quake on the hayward fault. >> every so often about three or four times in the last 10 years this little stuck patch ruptures and that's the
