confirmed to us by the chair of the city of oakland's finance and management committee. t meeting was to discuss the status of the city's budget picture following the first $15 million payment to the city of oakland for its share of the oakland coliseum. that payment, and the timing of it, had led in the last couple of weeks to a dispute between the mayor and some city council members. now, you'll recall, september 23rd, just a couple of weeks ago, was the deadline for that initial $15 million payment. council members trevor reed, noel gallo and janani ramachandran say the city didn't provide proof that it had received that money in time and because of that, they were told that part of the city's contingency budget or emergency budget had been triggered and that emergency budget included some immediate cuts to public safety and services. now, oakland mayor shengtao responded and said they did, in fact, get that money. and she had negotiated an even better deal to have the purchaser, the african american sports and entertainment group, pay even more money for the coliseum.
