live in old city. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. >>> the fire commissioner, again, saying the fire stands at four alarms and they'll be there for hours throughout the day. trying to make sure they get a real handle on this fire. >> also in philadelphia this morning, a woman in her 70s is dead following a house fire in the city's fox chase neighborhood. firefighters responded to the burning home last night. you can see the intensity of the flames there on your screen. it took crews about 90 minutes to get the fire under control. the victim, unfortunately, died at the scene. two firefighters were also hurt. we're told they're going to be okay. investigators will be looking for the cause of that fire. let's go back to our weather that we had overnight back to that snow coating in parts of the area this morning. the lehigh valley also seeing most of the snow here in this laters winter blast. >> for now. it may be melting shortly. pam osborne is on scene checking out roads. >> reporter: crews did a really g

this is the corner of 3rd and chestnut streets in old city. fire officials say the flames started in a six-story building at 239 chestnut street. that's right across from the museum of the american revolution. it's a building that includes apartments, a diner, a pizza shop and right next door, a best western hotel that was full of guests who woke up to the sounds of sirens an the smell of smoke. >> about 3:30 this morning, the fire alarm goes off. and i'm like what the fudge is that? we got out, got dressed and headed out. we headed out into the hall. you could see the smoke coming in. we went out the lobby and there was everyone. >> evacuees tell me it was a scary thing to wake up to hearing the loud sirens. smelling the smoke filling their bedrooms. as of right now, firefighters say they do not have any injuries to report. the investigation into what caused this fire is really just getting started. they still have to put out all the hotspots and then firefighters and fire investigators will go into the building to try to determine a cause. f

first alert forecast. >> developing right now at 11:00, these flames that destroyed a building in old city are now out but concern is now growing about the safety of the property that housed the apartments and businesses. dan or crumbling. live got new information from the city licenses and inspections office. they tell me it appears 239 chestnut, the main building for this fire, is a total loss and they are declaring it imminently dangerous. i can tell you which building that is, it is the one with red on bottom. you can see the 239 on the door. you can see the fire escape, lni tells me they are ordering the owner to take down the fire escape hoping thathaf the build. this was an intense fire that had fire crews fighting hot spots for hours. juerthat fire started but also the ones next door. now dozens of people were evacuated from their homes and from a nearby hotel. today that fire fighting may be over but crews old city is drawing people here to take a look. one man used to work in the area and called the site here mind boggling. >> i'm surprised the building really is standing seeing
