olivia: good morning. i'm olivia sterns. alix: and i'm out still. we are 90 minutes into a very volatile trading day. olivia, i thought we were done with this. olivia: september, we were going to start over, but once again economic data coming out of china since the market into freefall. the dow is down more than 330 points or 2%. we are off the session lows, but clearly all risk assets in the red, including your favorite, oil. let me show you what is happening with financial stocks. are looking at the biggest losers among financials. jpmorgan, bank of america, 3% to 4%. all down interest-ratey, margins are sensitive to any moves. also for oil, wells fargo earnings.15 to 2017 that ended up waiting on the sector perhaps as well -- conversation -- i think that is what move the market. he was the -- making the point to you, all of those energy companies will have to revise down the earnings forecast. alix: and looking at the entry day oil content -- the intraday oil. i have not seen any headline that really moved to the oil markets lower, but they are

olivia: good morning, welcome back to the "bloomberg market day." i'm olivia sterns.et's get a check where u.s. equities are trading. i head over to julie hyman resources from the newsroom. julie: after the university of michigan confidence report that showed the lowest reading for confidence in about a year. that after we saw slumping global markets in the month of august. now it's continuing to some degree here in september. that cause a little bit of a selloff in the major average. they were already down, and then again taking another leg lower, weighing on the major averages what's going on with oil. you were talking about it was stephen schork. if you look at my bloomberg terminal to get a feel for the effect, these the top movers in the s&p 500, both on the upside in green and the downside in yellow. by my count, all 10 of the worst performers in the s&p are indeed energy stocks. as we see that oil pullback, couple of examples of the biggest percentage decline are williams companies, transocean, murphy oil are some of those that are following the most. here's an

i'm olivia sterns. matt: let's get straight to a look at the market here as we hover around session lows. the s&p down 1.8%. 1915 is what you're looking at on the s&p, the august low 1867. we are still well above those lows but approaching them as we lose more than 3% on the week. down 10%.e dow is now all the major averages are in correction mode. they are 10% or more off their most recent peak. matt: and all down for the year as well. down year to date. take a look at treasuries. you have investors who bought the dip and the 10-year note is yielding 2.12%. s been tracking the equity markets pretty well. olivia: if we can try to get the two-year yield up, that is what is interesting in the treasury market, the short end of the curve is selling off while money is continuing to go into the longer dated bonds. you are seeing two-year yields are up a couple of basis points. look at that. did the two-year note change three basis points in 5 seconds? matt: it did, unless the graphics had a glitch. olivia: th

♪ olivia: good afternoon. alix: yes, you are seeing a rally with the dow up 250.tail sales coming in better than estimated. but olivia, really, let's talk about the volume. take a look inside my bloomberg terminal. index. the svs shows you all the average volume for this time of day versus the 20 day average. you can see it is down across the board. consumer staples are pretty much flat. olivia: mike mckee said earlier this morning -- this is interesting because of the fed meeting. the short end of the curve is that.g off, and look at the yield is 7.9%, the highest level since april 2011, up several basis points. that is a big move. alix: and unbelievable move. maybe we wills see a rate hike. olivia: i was looking at glencore because the stock had a crazy move at a record no -- record low in 2011. at one point, it hits a record low. it is going to issue more stock and will sell new shares, trying at 10 percentbt of existing shares. the rush to pay off debt before the ratings downgrade. alix: either way, the share is chopped in half. -- chart iol shark want to shar
