on campus. what about the academic superstar? a national honor pen. a pat on the head that they are a nerd. no body cared that much about them. but we were aware of a survey looking at the ability of 8th grade aquivalence to solve so-called math problems. we were 21-22 and that was quite alarming. we said we have to do something about this. we started giving out scholar awards to children starting in the 4th up to the 11t from all back ground who achieve at the highest academic levels and demonstrated quality that show they care about people. we need people that are smart and that actually care about others. in 1996, we started with 25 scholars. now we have given out over 6200 in all 50 states. we have a reading room compound as well. we put reading rooms all over the country and they are fascinating places no one would pas pass up. we particularly target title one schools where kids come from homes without book and go to a school with no library. those are the ones that drop out. and they get points spent in the reading room and they are de deckerated and fancy. they get points and can tra
