opd says they're ramped up. enforcement has led to the arrest of three cruise linked to robberies in the area. seven of those arrested were juveniles. oakland police also boosting their cease-fire operation in west oakland. opd says there's been an uptick in violent crime in the area in the past three weeks. that includes robberies and some shootings, so they're putting more officers out there to focus on making arrests and recovering weapons. >> former ufc champion cain velasquez pleaded no contest today to attempted murder charges. velasquez is accused of shooting at a man during a high speed car chase in south san jose in 2022. the person he chased was accused of molesting velasquez's relative at a daycare. and that person still faces felony molestation charges. an update now on a controversial arrest first reported by abc seven news i-team. a marin county judge has dismissed criminal charges against a former san rafael police officer involved in a 2022 confrontation with a gardener over an open beer. a judge

the oakland police officers association recently claimed opd only has 35 officers on the street, per shift. chief mitchell says he's waiting on results from a staffing study later this year, and hopes it will provide guidance in addressing these staffing issue. attacked by a bear and lived to tell about it. runner kwon ottaway was jogging in tuolumne county in the central valley on monday. that's when he says he spotted a mother bear. she was with her cub. the mom then charged at him, jumping on top of him and then scratching him, scratching his back. he grabbed a stick, hitting mama bear in the face, allowing him to get away. he then says he was thinking one thought the whole time. just hauled as fast as i could, and i was like thinking about my kids. i'm glad i didn't take my kids with me. ottaway managed to hop on top of a nearby suv and started screaming for help. neighbors came out to assist him. one even threw a log at the mama bear and made loud noises to get it to leave. the attack left ottaway with marks on his back, including on a bear tattoo. he got several years ago. wild
