the smoke is coming from multiple fires burning around oregon.northwestern portion of the state. and you can see that smoke just getting dragged down by the north northerly winds. and that is a wind that is concerning, which is why a red flag warning is going up at 11 p.m. tonight for the areas shaded in red. the north bay mountains, solano and lake counties, gusty winds, low humidity, any fires that develop are going to spread quickly as we look at those winds over the hilltops, not too bad right now about 25 miles an hour. oakland hills, mount diablo, 23 miles an hour, larry. all right. >> thank you, sandhya p-g-and-e's is raising the likelihood that it's going to shut off power to some areas. a preemptive move to reduce the risk of wildfires. but there's only one bay area county that could be affected, and that's napa. and we're only talking about seven customers there. this is part of a psps warning which is in effect today and tomorrow. about 5000 customers across eight counties in northern california may be impacted. >> a new driverless end

it's all associated with this low dropping into southern oregon.around that is out of the north. that's what's funneling in a lot of that smoke. so it's smoke today. and i think today is worse than yesterday. that's the way it looks here. but hang in there. it's not going to last a week or something. as we've seen in the past, air quality for haze and smoke is in the orange. a few red categories, some yellow. but you're seeing. all that activity funneling in here. big fog bank. don't want to lose sight of that. there's a lot of low clouds. the thunderstorm activity, tahoe looks like it's been pushed south of the area today. 50s and 60s on the temps. they really haven't budged all morning long. 34 alturas, also truckee, 36. mammoth, 37. south lake tahoe forecast high tomorrow for south lake tahoe is 58. that's it because of that upper low coming in the low we've had for a week is now in southern california. it'll get pushed inland and get absorbed by that developing low. once that kicks out late thursday, friday, then we will start to see improving

we are seeing showers to the north up near the oregon border. none of that drifting our direction. we're going to stay this way all day long today into tomorrow, too. secondary, low pressure and cold front to our north and a 3rd one dipping a little closer our direction this weekend. you may remember me talking about yesterday that chance of showers over the weekend for the sierra latest storm tracks are showing this low pressure could actually find its way diving in a little bit further westward. and if that is the case, that means a better chance of some light sprinkles for the bay area friday night into saturday morning. you're still going to see the bulk of that rainfall. well to our east and north areas like sacramento and reading could see around a quarter of an inch to a half an inch of rain over the weekend. well, san francisco and surrounding spots here in the day, just a few 107 inch, just another splash of rain kind of like yesterday morning. as for today, it's 60's 70's for san francisco in for coastal areas and then 70's 80's elsewh

and oregon continuing here in the bay area. spare the air alert is up today and it is going to continue tomorrow. poor air quality both days. one thing we have noticed today is very subtle, but the onshore winds have picked up napa, gusting to 28 miles an hour. and that has brought some improved to parts of the north bay in the green as you will notice. but many parts of the bay area in the yellow, which is moderate and orange, which is poor for sensitive groups, you'll want to shut your windows and doors and put your ac on, recirculate if you do have it, because it's not good, obviously, to breathe this as we go hour by hour that smoke is still with us at 6:00 this evening, 9 p.m, still a little bit hazy. and then as we head towards tomorrow, we'll continue to hang on to some of that until late tomorrow night. i do want to show you the visible satellite picture because as you will notice, there is a fire that's burning right here in the western portion of oregon. there is another fire that's burning up around northwestern cali

and i had invited him to speak to the people of oregon. but this was in a different context of the connection, the foreign relations in which we were striving to elevate concerns about the treatment of the tibetan people. she was a passionate supporter of the tibetan people. she had met him 30 years before in india. she had welcomed him on his first visit to the united states as the mayor of san francisco. she never let up on the importance of that challenge and her concerns about the mistreatment of the tibetan people. in fact, i also had the opportunity to work with her on the congressional executive commission on china which strived to shine a light on many human rights issues, but one of which certainly was defending the tibetan people's human rights and culture from the repression of the chinese government. and she was also a powerful partner as we worked together to pass the employment nondiscrimination act here on the senate floor, which we did in 2013. and then to strive to elevate the equality act, the gold standard for ending dis
