friends thatve had were lost to you in orlando at the pulse shooting. what is your experience, personally in terms of the immediate, intermediate and longer-term trauma. what do you find your friends yourienced, and what are reflections on it? >> i lived about 10 minutes from pulse. two of my friends died that night. of my other friends who has been a great activist is a survivor. in the direct aftermath, nothing can prepare you. i think we were all in a state of shock of losing not just one but two of our friends, and then we all knew other people, so pulse was an lgbtq club, and the the lgbt community in orlando was close. even if you did not lose someone , you knew someone who lost one. collectively it was a very traumatic experience. i was not at pulse that night, so i did not expect to have the same extent of trauma. i do not have the same extent of trauma of the people that were there, but, for example, i heard fireworks in the u.k. fawkes day, i thought they were gunshots and i started crying. that is not a reaction i was expecting. that was a fe

her husband, omar mateen, killed 49 people when he ambushed the orlando club in 2016. she was accused of helping him plan the attack. in a letter to the orlando sentinel newspaper, the jury foreman wrote a verdict of not guilty did not mean that we thought noor salman was unaware of what omar mateen was planning to do. on the contrary, we were convinced she did not. the charges were aiding and abetting and obstruction of justice. we were presented with no option but to return a verdict of not guilty.>> knowing something here was not enough to convict her of the crime. >> reporter: the foreman also said he wished the fbi had recorded the interviews. it is not unusual for federal investigators to take notes and summarize a suspect's statement rather than record it. >> terrorism cases are difficult prosecute. that is the bottom line.>> reporter: noor salman's mother is overjoyed. a neighbor across the street told us this is a chance for noor salman and her young son to make a fresh start.>> she can start her new life. >> reporter: her mother told us her daughter may stay

horror of gun violence perpetrated against our children, our families, our hearts ache for those in orlando, san bernardino, mother emanuel church, las vegas, park lapd, new town and the list is -- parkland and new town. the list is a long one. there has been too much violence and too much pain. the families and students suffering -- this should not be a political issue. the american people overwhelmingly want action. full 97% of americans support requiring background checks for all gun buys, including 97% of gun owners. there is a commonsense, bipartisan path forward in the congress. we can take action today on comprehensive background checks that have dangerous concealed carry reciprocity bill, allowing the c.d.c. to study gun violence, gun violence restraining orders that empower law enforcement to intervene when someone is a threat to themselves or others. we should all be listening to the american people on both sides of the aisle and allow the house to vote on bipartisan gun violence solution. the families and students suffering from heartbreak of gun violence deserve real leadership
