they're waiting to hear from jon ossoff. it was pretty clear from the beginning of the night when some of those early votes were coming in that the democrats close to the race were uncomfortable. republicans feeling very good. the one thing i will say, talking to republicans who even certainly were supportive of karen handel, they do warn, any look back, for instance, on 2009 and they say they were feeling really discouraged by having lost special elections. and then they got into 2010 where they actually won the house back. so they say this is a great night for them obviously, but they warn too much about extrapolating too much from the bigger picture especially when you have a race like this where tens of millions of dollars have come in and people on right argue that it changes the landscape of the race. but talking to democrats, they're saying this is a race where ossoff never should have had any business being competitive and they're hoping that will encourage democrats especially in races that could be more competitive
