this is the 23rd street overcrossing over 880. on the left side off in the distance, you can see where there is a chain link fence that is still there. on the southern side it used to have a chain link fence just like that. that is the fence that fell. the sidewalk will remain closed in further notice. you can tell this overcrossing has been reopened to traffic. let's show you up close video. the fence that used to line the southern side of the overpass is completely gone. it's now a straight 25-foot drop to the freeway below. yesterday without any warning it broke off and fell on to the 880 traffic below. it happened around 6:30. the falling debris sparked a car fire but luckily the man inside that car fire was able to escape without any injury. a total of eight cars were damaged but no one had life threatening injuries. >> it's a freak accident and every single person were just relieved they walked away from it alive. they were pretty shaken up by the nature of what happened. and by the amount of cars that were involved in it. >

the 23rd avenue overcrossing was inspected in february of 2015. because of the structures that are scheduled for the replacement on the currentcontract, no further information was noted. recommending the visible rust that we reached out to explain their infection that the spokesperson says that they will be unable to answer any questions about their report today. and last thursday that cal tran's director said that they should never have happened. >> while that is a classic example. >> now, they conducted a post- collapse infection, before reading in part on their right side of the south bridge, where the rail fell off to keep that current place and then install the chain link fencing along the edge of the deck for the pedestrian safety. on the left side of the south bridge, to remove the current reading to be replaced. more work on the right and left side of the north bridge to remove their current railing, to be replaced. they would run the custom house brokers just across the collapsed rail. that they said that something needs to be done. >> it

it's not unexpected but here the most likely filling in past 880 overcrossing. as we look at your map, see it going past the west grand avenue interchange. the overnight construction zone has cleared up and we're at speed pretty much for all your approaches to the maze, except for the east shore freeway which shows the build there. behind me and in towards concord and not an unusual pattern there. we have a bit slowing south 680 from dublin interchange down into pleasanton and a crash reported off of otesla and 580 smooth with a gentle build there and build for the castro valley and hayward southbound 880 for the nimitz and we're looking at a lighter flow of traffic and expect to see that in some spots. south bay for san jose live shot as we explain some schools and some businesses get the columbus holiday off today. but a pretty good flow of traffic through silicon valley and i expect big slowing some time after 7:00. back to you. >>> for making the streets safer. haq in this high intensity activated crosswalk. next generation signal being tested near the park.
