we have also together put finishing touches on what i call once in a generation projects, like park merced and treasure island, and working together, we have balanced this year's budget in a fiscally responsible way and without compromising our ideals. i want to say to you though that we all just heard the governor released his budget predictions for this year, and as you know, there was $4 billion in revenue that the governor had intended with the state legislature to close. they were only able to close $1.80 billion of that, so the trigger cuts have been announced as of today, so i pledge to work with you, with the community- based organizations to try to figure out how to protect our most critical services, and we have already begun that service, that effort, by meeting with our community-based organizations and certainly by individual meetings with each of you, supervisors, as well, so these coming months, we will be making a very strong effort to make sure our budget is balanced, also with an understanding to how these trigger cuts will impact us. clearly, there is a lot that remains

i came before you because i am a resident of park merced. it was recently disclosed to me on may 24, it was an unbelievable day because the first amendment rights of the residence and the public here in san francisco were denied in the land use committee at a later that afternoon before the sort of -- on board of supervisors. we were prohibited from reading the 14 pages of revisions that were introduced by supervisor david chiu in land use committee that changed the contract. we were not aware of the fact that there is a memo included in the legislation and the memo refers to $50,000 to be given to a project in supervisor carmen chiu's district. it is on muni stationery written by employees, and is a supplemental money. however, nowhere in the documents posted online and did this ever surfaced. that is alarming and disturbing. one of the things i did not mention in my letter, i think an investigation is warranted because i think it is a conflict of interest for that legislation to have been included within the development agreement that the

this is similar in many ways to park merced, in that it has a number of low-rise units, which i understand are up the zone, and i would anticipate that those are going to be demolished at some point, and we will see luxury high-rise condominiums built their -- there, and there will be a loss of many units due to hotelization. this is being rented out to corporations, for their pilots' and their attendants back, and that is not only taking affordable rent-controlled housing for the people need it, it is also robbing the legitimate hotels from their business, and it is robbing the city from its hotel tax revenue. it is technically legal that they can do that, as mr. paul pointed out, but i think a quick fix in the lot to redefine the rental of less than 30 days, even if the rental is greater than 30 days, that is less than 30 days, it is a violation of the apartment conversion law. but nonetheless, we should not be rewarding golden gateway for these illegal conversions. we should not be setting the stage for golden gateway to become another parker said fight, and we certainly do not need mor
