since 1985 america has celebrated july as the official recreation and parks month and we want everyone in san francisco talking about what they love about their recreation and parks and why it's so vital in their lives. so not only hosting the most exciting events of the year, america's cup and it will include the launch of the sf rec and park instagram photo contest and include a downloadable map, inviting visitors and several openings of our parks that i will highlight in a second. june was pretty good too. one of the most exciting events of this past month was the grand re-opening of [ lafayette park, where i had the pleasure of being joined by commissioners low and levitan and i number of long, long list of elected notables. the park has undergone a major facelift as part of the clean neighborhoods and parks bond and really one of san francisco's most beautiful parks. it's absolutely stunning, if you have not yet seen it. from the incredibly unique view at the summit of the park, to the remodeled playground, which natures the longest monkey bars in the united states of america, whi

you you're pretty funny to me is thirteen years together and ten years of marriage getting parks and recreation. well i found out after the fact that i had a very fortuitous audition for an episode of the office which greg daniels had created before parks and rock and his co-creator mike sure who's my boss at parks and rec he had written a subset of the office and i had done an audition for him and unbeknownst to me he was very taken with me and he went home and wrote my name on a post that. and put it on his computer monitor and three years later when they said we want to make this new show with amy poehler in the ensemble he took the post and said i want this guy on the show and so they tried me out in a couple different roles until they settled on the. part of amy's boss ron swanson and i had been through the situation several times in the past where a creative person wanted me on their show and every time the network would say he's too intense he's scary he talks too slow and finally this one stuck and i landed it . and the networks said hey we found this guy he talks too slow he's intense

have officers assigned to the park and we have representative that come out regularly to my community meeting which was the 3rd tuesday of the month. parks and recreation folks come out there and we have a meeting from maclaren park to talk about issues there. if you want to play ball, crocker park is your place. they are out there a lot. next slide. this is an organization chart of the station. the group on the left is the station investigation team. these are investigators who have been sent out to the stations to work the cases much earlier. right now i have 108 police officers at the station in addition to that i have 16 recruits. 8 just finished their training and 8 more who just started their training. it's great having the recruits at the station being a training station because what ends up happening is the person training them in the field training officer, their partner gedz -- gets freed up to be able to do other thing and we dress in plainclothes to address the issues that go on at night. we have been trying to address some of the problems that occur at night that happen during the hours of darkness. we have been able to put a dent in some

the brainstorm process we had residents that came up with an initially list of jobs and parks and recreation and streets and next slide. we went through a seven months process to what is the most important to folks and getting feedback from city departments and where a would we accomplish with the money provided. next slide. from that we actually created a ballot. i have circulated a ballot of what we had fourteen ideas. they ranged in fourteen areas. we had a vote we had almost 5 hundred folks vote. and after the fact we discovered about 70 percent of the folks that voted were non-white. i mentioned this because we don't have constituents that don't get involved. in addition to that we discovered that the voters reflected the tenant owner breakdown. one of the things we loud was all receipts so long as you could prove residencecy you could vote and young people over the age of 16 who otherwise wouldn't be able to vote for two years. this engages the lower class. let's talk about what got fund. the observation those are all projects i wouldn't have come up on myself. you know, we receive hun

get in touch with the parks and recreation center so come >> i have 2 job titles. i'm manager of the tour program as well as i am the historyian of city hall. this building is multifaceted to say the very least it's a municipal building that operates the city and county of san francisco. this building was a dream that became a reality of a man by the name of james junior elected mayor of san francisco in 1912. he didn't have a city hall because it was destroyed in the earth wake of 1906. construction began in april of 1913. in december 1915, the building was complete. it opened it's doors in january 1916. >> it's a wonderful experience to come to a building built like this. the building is built as a palace. not for a king or queen. it's built for all people. this building is beautiful art. those are architecture at the time when city hall was built, san francisco had an enormous french population. therefore building a palace in the art tradition is not unusual. >> jimmie was an incredible individual he knew that san francisco had to regain it's place in the world.
