parkway. news4's megan mcgrath will show you what's happening. some relief, megan. >> reporter: well, this is the choke point, the merge area where the northbound express lanes end and that traffic has to go over into the regular lanes. we'll start driving it now to see the merge point here up ahead. you can see all the traffic that we have here. those are the folks in the regular lanes. we're in the express lane. we'll have to go move over and that really slows things down during the rush hour. hopefully, some help is on the way. beginning as soon as 7:00, vdot will open a left-hand shoulder to traffic, adding an additional lane. this is a 1.5 mile stretch. from the end of the express lanes down to the g.w. parkway. they'll be doing this from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00. and then they'll reopen that shoulder again from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. coming up on an electronic sign here. they'll have the signs with the red "x" or a green arrow indicating whether or not you can use that left-hand shoulder lane. t

we're talking about bradley boulevard shut down there at huntington parkway. could be something we're dealing with throughout the morning. best alternate is wilson lane or old georgetown road to make your way around it. 270 into and out of town no issues there. 66 here, it's fine. 95 northbound and southbound, also flowing just fine. 95 in maryland, 29, b.w. parkway, everything again nice and green out there at the top of the beltway. only issue top of the beltway is inner loop at colesville with the two right lanes blocked. talking about the situation in bethesda huntington and parkway, we have zachary kiesch out there. how does it look right now? >> reporter: this will be a mess out here, melissa. we talked about this this morning. they have been working all night. you can see the crews they have been out here trying to get this situation resolved. one of the main issues here is that there's a gas line that runs in the middle of this excavation site so it's been a very, very tedious process. they say they have that cavity dug out. now they're trying to get t

presidio park drive. >> yeah doyle drive, pri said owe parkway -- presidio parkway. crews wrapped up construction early around 9:00 last night. the new design took 15 years of planning but is now safer for driving and in the event of an earthquake. tara moriarty will have another live report from here at 6:30. you can see traffic is crowded. 10-15 minute delay before you make it on to the span itself. if you are driving into the east bay so far we are off to a good start. westbound 237 looks okay. looks like northbound 10 is at south city there is one lane blocked by a stall or a minor accident. the fire started near a fence in a neighborhood of south san jose but it quickly spread. pool with relieved there was only property damage. >>> certainly a sense of relief in this south san jose neighborhood. this fire caused quite a bit of damage last night. a total of five homes were burned. some of them only partially. but still this could have been worse. more damage could have been done as this fire spread through the neighborhood and jumped over some of the back fences
