what is parler? amy: thank you for having me on. parler is a social media website.e envision ourselves as rebooting social media to make it what it was originally intended, which is to provide a free and open platform, a public square, for free speech. we also have a substantial focus on privacy, protecting individual privacy. host: as many people do when they are trying to research a new place or thing, i went to wikipedia. i want to get your reaction to what is on your wikipedia page. it says parler markets itself as free speech and unbiased alternative to mainstream social networks such as twitter and facebook. however, journalists and users have criticized the service for content policies that are more restrictive than the company portrays. amy: we have heard some of those criticisms, but i have not seen evidence that really backs it up. if you read our community guidelines, you will see we permit the widest possible amount of speech consistent with law, because of course we will not allow our platform to be used for crime or anything else. within that, we are i

any person on parler, a user of parler, can report a piece of content. we have a drop-down menu, if you go to the upper right, you can report that piece of content and there is a menu with different types of violations. that goes into our community jury portal and our volunteer jurors will look at that piece of content. they get training on a regular basis and can tell whether or not it is a violation. it is a quorum system. it requires a majority to deem it a violation. also, we have a special notation they can put, if they think the content is illegal and should be immediately removed, it gets escalated more quickly. host: you have use the term parler and parley. what is the correct pronunciation and where did that name come from? amy: i admit i have been working for parler since july. when i saw the name and i took french in high school, i thought it should be pronounced parlay, the infinitive for the french. but they started pronouncing it parlor, and that is how it has always been. we make up for that a little because instead of a tweet, the posts o
