, business partners, so there are many other positivity pieces that we haven't yet measured. thank you very much. >> thank you for your presentation. do we have anyone else who is going to be presenting? >> i am. good morning, my name is rebecca, i am the manager of events and fund raising at the bay view opera house. if you're not familiar with the bay view opera house, we are san francisco's landmark building number a. eight and we are san francisco's newest national landmark. the bay view opera house is [inaudible] and this was the fifth sunday street that i helped plan and organize. what i wanted to report on is that in 2010 when i was asked to be involved in sunday streets bay view i expanded on the health component that already existed. we decided to really get a look at what was happening in the bay view. i consider it the last and lost forgotten sector of our city and we're trying to ensure that communities know that bay view that they can take their neighborhood back. it is their neighborhood, they can walk at night. and sunday streets is one of those things with kid

[applause] let me thank all of our cgi america partners, all of our cgi partners. i look forward to working with you. that brings me to the third area of my passion, which is very related. economic development that creates good jobs and opportunities for young people, who face an unemployment rate doubled the national average and for all of those left behind by our fast-changing economy. there are important debates to be had about how government policies can best stimulate growth and increase economic and social mobility. this cannot just be a conversation about washington. we all need to do our part, and that is why the u.s. conference of mayors work on infrastructure is so important and such a good example. we have to prove to ourselves as well as the rest of the world that are public and private sectors can work together to find common ground for the common good. smart investments in infrastructure are important and over the next two days, we will be highlighting dozens of the commitments and partnerships to improve our countries competitiveness from boosting en

we're distributing them to neighborhood partners, gathering feedback. i hope to have all 25 of them done this summer. and these are intended really twofold. no. 1 to be a resource for community members who are really stakeholders for these communitis and no. 2 they are intended to inform the deployment of city resources and the resources of our partners as well. because based on results of these assessments we're going to create a customized plan for each of the 25 neighborhoods. this slide is a map of the process by which we're going to come up with this plan. so you see it starts in the upper left with the assessment. based on all of that analysis, our team of oewd staff working with our partners and other city agencies are going to come up some ideas, just a list of ideas. how could we respond to these conditions on the ground? what should we be deploying? based on all the tools that we have in our toolkit? and keep in mind, what are the economic needs? what existing social capital is there in the community for us to work with? what opportunities for

we continue to partner with city departments to provide service. we have increased our work orders with other city departments. the department continues to focus on quality improvements by working with cbo's to evaluate programs as well as provide technical assistance and capacity building for them. and in this budget we are requesting four new positions, one which is grant funded and through substitutions. as i stated earlier we have a small staff but quite a large budget. we struggle constantly to be responsive and accountable to our grantees, partners and of course residents of the city who entrust us to manage and administer these funds with integrity and accountability. these changes will allow us to give more individualized support through the grantees and bring in the expertise to guide the data work. currently our program officers monitor and oversee 60 to 70 programs. they are asked to provide observation provides and to their grantees and with programs in coordination with our consultants. we also need more support in our data and evaluat

and finally, there is a lot of leadership and support from the communities, from the federal partnersnd from the government and from city hall that makes all of this happen, but at the end of the day, everybody has to drive this project forward and so i want to acknowledge the subway director, john sungi, since 2006 john has been working day and night living and breathing this project to make sure that it happens, i think that he has a central subway tattoo on his arm. i think that the tunnel manage machine down stairs has spent more time with tom than his family has. he has been bringing expertise and commitment to improving the transit in san francisco to bear in this project day in and day out for the last seven years now. so i know that this is a big day for him and i want to thank him and his excellent team and the sfmta staff and dpa staff and the contractors and all of whom have been working hard to get us here today. and then i also want to acknowledge some of the political leadership, that is really been a part of bringing this project forward. the significant federal commitm

loans through a number of lenders, we do it with a lot of other partners as well. let me give a little bit of a sense of what the small business administration does and is. we in san francisco covered the bay area and north coast counties, and we do a variety of things. i will come back to the credit card because i know that is what this session is about, but before i do that, there's two other roles we play that are important as well. one is about helping small businesses understand how to start businesses, getting good technical assistance, getting good advice about starting and managing your business. equally important is being prepared for credit. one of the things we tried to do is work with small businesses to understand how to be ready for credit. a lot of that is helping folks that are interested in starting a business understand how to develop a business plan, how to get good advice about starting and managing a business. we see a lot of small businesses interested in starting a business, and they have a talent or skill or craft, and they know what they wa
