. >> thank you, pat lawson muse. new charges tonight against a tennessee man who was shot by police at the capitol this week. larry dawson faces charges of resisting and assault of a federal police officer. court documents say he passed through a metal detector twice before that shooting on monday. both times it alerted that he had metal near his waist. the documents say that when police wanded him, dawson pulled a bb gun and pointed it at the officer. they say he was shot twice when he refused orders to put the gun down. the charges against him carry a sentence of up to 30 years in prison. >>> donald trump here in washington today to meet with his foreign policy team, but his day also included a surprise stop at the headquarters of the republican national committee. a source with the rnc told nbc news that the agenda included party unity and other subjects. that meeting comes as trump is facing new stres with women voters. >> an nbc news poll conducted

news4's pat lawson muse is working this story. health and safety allegations against this popular spot. >> we're talking about the wardman park marriott hotel on connecticut avenue. the occupational safety and health administration, osha, has slapped the hotel with nearly $77,000 in citations. those include a dozen violations that osha considers to be very serious violations. among the issues listed by osha, no written program for the way employees should handle and maintain hazardous materials. failure to set up a written plan for how housekeeping should handle guest laundry contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious materials, and a damaged chute conveyor in a grease collecting room that was covered in lint. that presents a potential fire hazard. in a state us it is committed to a safe environment and it says, quote, we've already addressed most of the items identified by osha and continue to cooperate with them. marriott also says it's also using this opportunity to reinforce its safety and security procedures. wen

i'm pat lawson muse. this is reporter's notebook. could virginia soon be showing shades of blue? it's a question both parties are now pondering after the clinton and trump wins on super tuesday while hillary clinton's win was clear, donald trump's win was narrow with marco rubio coming on strong. trump got 34% of the xwop vote. so the majority of voters say they don't want does this mean republican party this virginia? >> it probably means trouble for them in the general election. even though trump won the primary, rubio can kind of say, well, he won because he got a little closer. he still hasn't really won a primary. we know he won a caucus. and if you look at the numbers where trump won, he won more in the southern part of the state where rubio wins in the d.c. suburbs. so that tells you right there that the state isn't really sure what they want. but maybe i'm answering my own question. maybe they are sure what they want. and in the southern part of the state, they won someone like donald trump and the d.c. suburbs, they want someone like rubio. and isn't this really the issu
