((patrick walker)) >> both sides are claiming victory today... after the surpreme court released a long-awaited decision on the program. in this decision released earlier today... the court put a stop to the program. but the state treasurer... who administers the program... along with the attorney general... are also declaring victory. lawmakers passed the program last year... which allows the state to instead pay parents the amount of money that would go toward their child's education at a public scho dollars that can then be applied toward private school tuition... or any other education- related purpose. the state supreme court found the program itself to be constitutional... affirming a lower court's decision. but the court found issue with the funding... siding with a separate lower court ruling in northern nevada that temporarily halted the program. the argument from education advocates -- that money from the distributive schools account ... which funds k-12 education statewide... can't be diverted from public education.
