paul heggen tracking the powerful winds causing so much concern. paul? >> yeah, rather than being a life threatening situation like it has been in southern california is something more inconvenient. the difference is the wind speed, not as strong, but certainly strong in the offshore wind. the biggest difference is the amount of far normal or above normal rainfall. we are still under a wind advisory for most of the bay area, where the winds will be dying down, still a breezy day overall. strongest wind gusts that we have seen so far have been in the 30 to 40 miles an hour range, barely over 25 miles an hour for san jose, but closer to 30 miles an hour gust in san francisco. farther to the north end, picking up 35, 36 miles an hour gust around napa and santa rosa and we are seeing the same pattern that is causing our gusty winds and the difference to the center of the feature that is causing the wind flow to go offshore and pack sell rate as they would run downhill towards the coast. 80 to 100 miles an hour gusts will remain possible tonight and tomorrow

paul, thank you for joining us. i want to get your take on this.just getting small bids by bids and hoping to get more from the fbi and of course a press conference coming. the local new orleans police media is reporting that the city council president says that this attacker was "not a local" and was dressed in full military gear. what is your reaction? >> what do you guys mentioned earlier, it is very reminiscent of the terrorist attack that occurred on the west side highway executed by an hour i was actually on scene for that and it has a lot of that footprint. if an attack on a holiday in [indistinct] in new york, it was halloween. he cannot gain access for the halloween parade because of prophylactic measures at the nypd had taken by parked trucks and other things to secure the event. and so he went on the website highway and did what he did. this is very reminiscent of that and that is believe me the kind of thing that is on the amount of investigators here. the fbi as we know has the lead. what they are going to be looking for for this to be

thanks, paul. >>> the national institutes for health calling for more action to tackle bird flu after dozens of people in the u.s. contracted the virus last year and while a majority turned out to be mild cases, scientists are concerned about a case in canada where a teenager did become seriously ill. then there's a case in oregon where a house cat died after eating raw pet food contaminated by bird flu and then down in l.a. their department of public health is now investigating the deaths of four more house cats that drank recalled raw milk. here in california there have been 37 human cases of bird flu so far according to the state health department. while they're stressing the risk to the public is low, governor newsom did declare a state of emergency over the outbreak in mid-december as a way of trying to increase resources and staffing across the state before things could get bad. the most direct impact for most people might be at the grocery store now where bird flu is helping boost the already high price for a carton of eggs. mckenzie diaz show us how it's forcing one restaurant

let's check in with paul heggen. >> that's been the challenge as the offshore winds while not as strong as the past couple of days, have still been a factor. what has been produced as offshore winds is a swirl in the atmosphere at my feet. that will get pushed a little further off to the east. that mean it is offshore winds will relax as we head through the next 24 hours. what we will see is gusty conditions. higher elevations, becoming a little bit less gusty as we head through the overnight and early morning hours. still offshore winds at elevation. but closer to sea level, a weak on shore breeze is going to try to return. there are no shower chances in the forecast, but we will take moisture from any source, even if it is just a return of a marine influence. and the winds will remain pretty light throughout most of the day tomorrow. let's return to the floor map and take a look at the fire weather risk. which today was up into the extremely critical category. that's going to subside somewhat tomorrow. but they are not going to be out of the woods. the fire outlook for tomorrow will b

both those areas are prone to falling trees, paul? >> yeah, the winds have been gusty and what we have is the advisory that will include all the bay area really once we get past sunrise tomorrow, the worst of the wind will be behind us, and the wind gusts have been anything compared to what they have seen down south. mostly in the 25 to 30 miles an hour range in parts of the region and the valleys. again, the big problems is in southern california. the plume is visible on the radar, extending away from the coast, being reflecting all of the ash if that matter that has been consumed by the fire. it's an area that we knew was coming. and for the rest of the country, drifting much farther south, which is the ideal position to produce those gusty offshore east to west winds that have been very gusty throughout the day. the peak gusts so far in southern california has been over 80 miles an hour. 86 miles an hour gusts at magic mountain. but we will see more widespread 80 to 100 miles an hour gusts as we would head through the rest of tonig

let's bring in chief meteorologist paul heggen. paul, this may be it for a while it sounds like. >> yeah. the first rain of 2025 won't be followed up by the second rain of 2025 anytime soon. the forecast looks pretty dry for a while. let's look how things played out earlier today. this is the radar replay as we look over the past 12 hours or so as showers made their way into the north bay before the sun came up with the heaviest rain progressing across the bay area right around the peak of rush hour and that, of course, slowed things down for the north bay and around san francisco and oakland. just as fast as it moved in, the steadiest rain moved out just after lunchtime. let's look at how much rain added up. it generally conformed on our expectations with less than 0.1 in san jose, only 0.01 around antioch and brentwood, just over a 0.1 of an inch for danville, just 0.01 in concord, a quarter inch in san francisco and half moon bay with the highest amounts in the north bay, almost a half inch of rain around san rafael with just ov
