we are a peace corps for dekes.hrough our fellowship program, we have been getting great developers and designers to take a year off and work with city government. what comes from that are great apps that citizens can use, but more than that, they work with the government on more innovative approaches to try to institutionalize these different approaches that reflect what we have come to call web 2.0. what we're talking about today is an amazing program funded by google, the kauffman foundation, help from her on, and others, and received an accelerator for civic start-ups. by that, we mean companies that work in the government space that will disrupt, in a healthy way, the government ecosystem, and provide a new set of vendors and provide new and innovative ways for citizens to access government services. we are very excited to be partnering with san francisco on this. i am grateful for everyone here in the room, especially mayor lee, ron conaway, a andjay, who we have seen -- and jay, who we have seen as an innovat

my sister laurie, you know her as jasper's mom, lived there three years while she served in the peace corpse news, i called her and reminded her about when i visited her in her village and a boa constrictor slithered slowly, heavily, ponderously over the backs of our knees one night and there is no electricity. she denies this happened, but my other sister backs me up. we were lying side by side. she shared another story too. she had bats, 42 of them. they slept in her hut during the day and went out at night. like bats do while she slept. she spent a lot of time cleaning up the bat poop and used it to fertilize her garden. they was she -- she was thinking about how symbiotic that relationship was between her and her bats. i was thinking, wow, is it a little strange that you counted your 42 bats. we laughed about those stories but we also remembered very serious things too. there was a muslim festival that she took me to where christians and muslims were celebrating together in african style. it was ebb -- ebullient. there was a lot of dancing and there was no violence. so here's hoping mal
