at least the way i think the united states policymakers have come to see china's role to the peninsular debates has grown. there is a growing sense that china has a major role to play here. what are your thoughts on the north korea-china relationship and china's potential role in terms ofnegative a potential conflict on the peninsula? >> again, i don't think it has changed much. i think that china's role in north korea has been one of, for lack of a better word, providing those assets, resources necessary to keep the regime in power. that has been done over time. now it is almost like a family have onehip, that you of your family who is dysfunctional, they are still part of the family. north korea is a dysfunctional kid but the fact of the matter is, china is supporting them. they may not like the activities. they have taken steps to try to stifle some of the activities, nuclear for example, missile test for example. in some cases, they have probably been successful. in most cases, they have not been. china can play a very critical modifying the behavior of north korea. this point, i do
