what senator flake says, though, is that he was told in direct contrast with senator perdue's statement, so how does all that impact the conversation surrounding this? >> it's a great question, and it's hard to say. it's hard to determine what was said when different people are giving differing accounts. it's also, you know, either way, though, it's been very damaging. it's been damaging because it's something that people sort of view as something that the president would be able to say and would think is okay to say. and because despite his partial denial, he hasn't come out very explicitly to say no, that's never something i would do or say. so the shockwaves, as they were, politically, have been big, and they have also had an impact on other countries and areas of the world that we're allegedly impugned by those comments. >> jeff, let's remember that senator perdue in coordination with senator cotton, initially issued a joint statement saying they don't recall the president using that term. but now he says otherwise and says it just was not said. how do you interpret that? >> well, i

perdue does not. ask anyone who's death with it. what does this mean for the daca deal, a.b.? >> well, actually, of all of those accounts i found erick erickson the most compelling. he spoke with one of the people the president called to bask in the glow of the backlash, basically gauging his allies's response to this firestorm. so it's really hard to believe that it wasn't a naked base play. he knew staff was in the room. he had that last week for which i give enormous credit for something that illustrated leadership from something we haven't seen before. he said i'll take the heat. get to go a deal requires giving everyone a built of cover from their base. now the left wing of the democratic party will say that man is a racist and you can't make a deal with him. it definitely exacerbates the tkwaoeufpltd i think the court ruling gave trump a few days to play to his base. they have renewed applications for daca protection. and i think it buys him some time and he thinks he can play this immigration hawk thing, make the base happen, respond to the criticism to levine, limbaugh

>> perdue, tom cotton, these are not exactly dove on the issue of immigration, they are hawkish on itervatives recognize the benefit to securing the border and fixing long-term problems. yes, i think we will get widespread support on our side. politically it's not a policy, flatly falls, 70% of americans support it. when you say you're going to secure the border and end chain migration, 70% of americans agree. it's not a policy issue, it's a politics question. chris: the president will push infrastructure plan and here is the outline of that. $20 billion in federal money to leverage at least 1 and a half trillion dollars in state and local and private investment. here is the problem, infrastructure has traditionally been 80-20 split. but what you're proposing is a 80-20 split, 20% federal money and 80% from other sources. why is that going to work? >> i think it's going to work for reasons that the infrastructure needs to be fixed. part of the central part of campaign and needs bipartisan support for it. there's no doubt that democrats in congress would want more federal dollars on th
