today in the bay's pete suratos live there this morning. hat damage behind you, so how did all this happen, do they know? >> yeah, good morning to you, marcus. they don't know exactly how it happened, but you see here, this tree snapped at hardy circle in the pleasant hill area. that tree damaging not only this car but several other cars. that's where that tree is really causing a lot of headaches for folks in the area. as you mentioned, this is a historic tree. a 350-year-old heritage oak tree, so i want to point out this is what's considered a protected tree. they will need a tree removal permit from the city in order to take it down. so the city really dictates the terms on that one. the tree did snap roughly around 12:00 a.m., and the homeowner says it looks like about six to seven cars were damaged in all this. no injuries thankfully to folks outside when all this took place. here she is describing what she heard when the tree snapped earlier this morning. >> we were laying in bed. my husband was asleep. i heard a crash that sounded lik

pete suratos is live in san mateo off highway 92. this is near where this happened. and pete, what details have you been able to find out about the suspect? >> yeah, well, marcus, at this point, we know the suspect picked up the victim near highway 92 behind me. the specific location of where that pickup took place is still unknown because the details are still limited as this is still an ongoing investigation by san mateo police. but they are releasing a sketch of the suspect. we'll show that to our viewers so you can get a good look at the man they're trying to track down. san mateo police say this man picked up the victim on tuesday night, posing as a ride share driver. now, he then drove this woman to a secluded location where he sexually assaulted her. police say the victim was able to escape. a passer-by driving by in the area near the 1400 block saw her, helped her, and called 911. >> something of this nature that is this egregious is always very troubling. outside the norm, and it really shocks the conscience. for us, we take these very seriously. we have had

today in the bay's pete suratos joins us live in walnut creek with both sides of the issue. good morning, pete. >> yeah, good morning to you, laura. actually, we're here at the walnut creek b.a.r.t. station, which is in the midst of its own upgrades. here, you can see this is where they're going to eventually build the parking garage in this area, more than 900 parking spots. we'll get to those details in a moment as it's part of a bigger project for walnut creek which will eventually build apartments on the b.a.r.t.-owned land in this area. that's exactly what the state bill is about. now, this is according to the san jose mercury news. this type of construction isn't exactly new for b.a.r.t. when they're talking about the state build. b.a.r.t. has worked with developers to build thousands of homes at or near 13 of its stations. but the bill would force cities to rezone b.a.r.t. land and fast track approvals for certain developments. now, b.a.r.t. has already set a goal to build 20,000 new apartments by 2040 on the land that it owns and 35% of it would be rented alt below ma

nbc bay area )s pete suratos joins us live from the district attorney )s office.with what they )re doing about it. pete, this is a story with potentially big impact? from the district attorney's office, with what they're trying to do about it. this is a huge story here. >> reporter: yes, huge impact indeed. as a result of this incident that took place in march, the d.a. released a statement in the past couple of hours that they plan on reviewing all juvenile cases that have been submitted since the start of the year by the sheriff's office. i want to show our viewers a portion of that statement. this is from the beginning and i want to read it off where they say the district attorney's office was not aware that the sergeant with the county sheriff's office had recorded a conversation between a minor and district attorney's office. we have all the discovery for the video from the body-worn camera. the d.a.'s office says it is privileged communication and they immediately dismissed this case. now they're reviewing all juvenile cases submitted since the start of the year. they cannot provid

pete suratos joins us live at the police department which will be the change or really in charge of that investigation. pete, any updates we are seeing so far? >> reporter: yeah, well, marcus, i went inside here to the police department about an hour ago. they didn't provide updates on this. remember, this was a tragic house fire that took the lives of three people on sunday and overnight we learned that this is now turned into a homicide investigation which is a pretty big development when you think about what type of fire we're talking about. i' i'll show you the scene from sunday morning when it all happened and as far as what we know right now we know that when the house went up in flames in vallejo two 14-year-old twins were found dead inside of it. the mother died a short time later at a local hospital. their 11-year-old sister did escape. we can only imagine the trauma she is going through. a neighbor shot this on the cell phone saying she heard a male voice screaming and yelling inside of the home less than an hour before the fire was reported. and then at about 2:00 a.m. on sund
