phil, what's the latest? >> reporter: anderson, we are getting a clearer picture of what happened here. the interesting information is the confirmation from the venue itself, the manchester arena. it confirmed the blast did take place outside of the venue, which confirmed an observation we made through the evening, looking at video from within the arena, it didn't show any obvious point of detonation. there was no smoke. it didn't look like a bomb had gone off. now the venue is confirming that the blast -- the incident took place just outside the venue, just outside the concert -- just after the concert finished. just as people were leaving the venue. that's what witnesses have told us as well. one blast and according to the police as you touched on, 19 confirmed dead as a result of this. as many as 50 or more injured. we know that many of these were young people, teenagers, children with parents and so forth who had spent the night enjoying the concert just inside. >> continuing to monitor this, awaiting the

phil? >> potentially, we may be. certainly, there are a few democrats including senator durbin, as you noted, who have alluded to that in their reaction statements. i think at this point we're still in the fact gathering mode. >> rose: exactly. we're trying to figure out what happened. why tid the president decide to make this decision today. what is he going to do to backfill comey? what happens to this investigation? is there going to be a special prosecutor? do the congressional investigations continue as planned? there are just a lot of unknowns now and we're trying to navigate through that. >> and, charlie, there are two other timeline points i would note. one is the most recent testimony by comey, the one where he felt mildly nauseous thinking he might have impacted the outcome of the election, but also saying if he had to do it again he would make the exact same choice again. that seemed to be the point that the attorney general and deputy attorney general and perhaps the president himself have latched on to i

phil?rter: brian, it's worth paying attention to but we should point out that everybody we've talked with has said this is nowhere close to being a level of concern that we saw back before the auto crisis or the recession and the big auto problems back in '07 and '08 leading into '09. basically what you're seeing right now is that there is greater emphasis on whether or not people are able to make their loan payments. subprime make up one-fourth of the auto loans written. yesterday fed governor brainard said there's evidence the subprime borrowers might be struggling with payments which raises the question how many people are actually in default, delinquent on their loans. the most recent data from the fourth quarter just 2.44% of the loans are in 30 days delinquency and 60 days is less than 1% of all auto loans and, again, those are below the historical averages. the may sales rate coming in estimated at 16.8 million. we'll find out the official number tomorrow when all of the automakers r

our congressional correspondent phil mattingly is joining us. phil, even with the president now traveling on his first stop in this overseas trip, drama continues. >> yeah. no question about it. look, what you pointed out, wolf, is spot on. republicans i have spoken to throughout the week, very supportive of the president throughout this point, the word i hear repeatedly is exhausted. they are tired. while they haven't specifically responded to the stories, it certainly isn't going to help that process. democrats wasted no time weighing in. i just spoke with a michigan democrat who said he is dumb founded by what was released in the new york times story about this meeting. joe crowly, chairman of the democratic caucus said president calling anybody a nut job is quote like the pot calling the kettle black. he also said he is essentially at this point run out of words to describe how he is supposed to respond. some democrats have gone even further than just being befuddled, if you will. senator patrick lachey, and former chairman tweeted out this

i agree with what phil was saying earlier.his kind of dove tails with what senator mccain was saying. broad strokes, yes. you can get agreement with the house. mccain is talking about the promise and the pledge to repeal this that will motivate the senate to try to get things done. but the problem in the senate, as is with any legislative body, it's the fine details that i think may trip up republicans. for example, in the house, there are block grants for medicade that will reduce historically the cost of medicade. i'm already hearing from republican senators who are fearful who that will leave in the hrur fp. they're afraid some people won't be be able an afford coverage. there are people afraid of people ages 50 to 64 and rates going up. even though they may agree with the premise of giving states flexibility. i have also floated senate ideas in the house. for example, some senators are talking ab giving states the tphresability to keep obamacare and auto enroll people in basic health care pharmacy plans. that's a big idea

let's get over to phil lebeau. phil?ear more details about why mark fields has been ousted from ford. that's coming up at a press conference at 9:45 this morning. we expect that bill ford, chairman of the company, he will be at this press conference. we also expect that jim hackett the new ceo is likely to be at this press conference, as well. mark fields removed after the board of directors met on friday. and if you want to know why jim hackett is taking over, take a look at shares of ford under mark fields. you have to go back to july 1st of 2014, since then shares of ford down 35%. so, what's jim hackett going to do and what's he going to say? it's unclear at this point exactly what he's going to say. but you can bet that there are going to be two areas that he is likely to address in some fashion today, and again this is our speculation based on talking with sources within ford, as well as with analysts and what they expect to hear. one of them is a clear focus on the growth plan at ford. where are they going to real
