. >>> let's bring in phil lebeau with a big stock mover in the ev space today and it is what, phil >> trend truck of the year. not rivian, but the rivian r1t, the company's first vehicle. the all-electric pick up truck that's the reason the stock is getting a bit of a pop today it beat out the ford maverick, the hummer, sut. so you've got some competition there and this is a nice feather in the cap for rivian. they have delivered some of the r1ts that have been ordered this fall haven't given us an exact number of how many they have delivered to date. we'll likely get that on thursday, as well as an updated number in terms of reservations. stood at just ipo. again, that's on thursday when the company reports its complete q3 results the numbers are not likely to be terribly different than what we saw at the ipo but we'll hear from the ceo again, the focus will be on what are we seeing with the reservations and what are we seeing in terms of deliveries. speaking of deliveries in terms of the ev space, a lot of attention focused on what we will see at the end of the year. look at ford, g

phil lebeau has more on the quarter. at the production estimates the company was expecting to deliver about 1,200 vehicles by the end of the year in the fourth quarter they're going to fall a few hundred shy of that. the reaction on wall street, they kind of expected that there might be some challenges there, but clearly inesthvestors selli off on this news and stock down 3% three challenges that the ceo talked about yesterday during the conference call. slower production. the 1,200 they're not going to achieve and ramping the supply chain and then increased inventory because of some of the supply chain challenges. that's the challenging or troubling news that came out of yesterday's report from rivian the positive news is that they are seeing demand in terms of people who want to buy the r1t or r1s the electric pickup truck you're looking at right here. combined orders have climbed to 71,000 for a point of reference end of september they were at 48,000 people who are ordering those. the company also announcing yesterday

we appreciate it let's turn to phil lebeau.oday, almost. >> yes, it has been a choppy session but we have seen at times some of the airline stocks actually in the green. here is what we're seeing relative to the omicron impact i think a lot of people thought, here we go again, the airlines are going to sell off big time it really hasn't happened, in part because you have domestic travel, which remains strong look, the weekend passenger levels down just 13% compared to 2019 yes, international bookings are easing a bit, but when you look at where they are relative to 2019 they're only down 40% to 50%. i say only because, remember, there was a time when they were down 65%, 70%, 75% while we have seen greater lockdowns and we are showing you the international-related carriers, talking about american, delta, united. jetblue also has flights into the uk look, we haven't seen the kind of lockdowns that many people thought we might with this variant, at least not yet in europe so bookings, while they are softening a bit, they're still

part of the peaking we saw in evs could be build back better and the promise of it let's bring in phil lebeau on what this major setback means for the ev space phil >> melissa, it means no juice in the near term. remember, part of the plan was for expanded ev incentives and that would have meant an additional 12,500 for union-built evs. ford and gm. ultimately stlantis. we talk with people in the industry, we may not see the juice that we were originally expecting, say six or nine months ago we may not see that over the next couple of years longer term, the impact is going to be limited because the commitments are already being made take a look at tesla this is a perfect example. their sales are growing at a great clip now and on on of that, they've got two gigafactories that are about to open one tin texas and one in german. as for gm and ford, they're both ramping up their production right now. now the lack of greater insent siev insen in may mean they don't have as many sale then you have to look at rivian, fisker, lucid. they would have benefitted from greater incentives being offered. as

of its dreamliner forcing american to reduce its international flights next summer let's get to phil lebeaure hey, phil? >> hey, tyler, this announcement from american airlines came out after a report in the "wall street journal" detailing how delays in the manufacture of the dreamliner that were scheduled will be affecting flights in 2022 americans will be dropping service to edinburgh, scottnd la, reducing schedules maybe to beijing, sidney, those destinations in asia the american airlines shares are trading lower. for boeing, it has been since the ends of may they have not been able to deliver the dreamliners because the faa hasn't signed off on the inspection process for dreamliners before they can be delivered. that's the impact for boeing and american today mean meanwhile, all the airline stocks are lower now, when you look at this list of airline stocks, keep in mind southwest is specific to southwest. they had an investor day negative comments from a couple of analysts, in fact a downgrade from i believe jefferies saying we are not crazy about outlook that southwest presented to us

phil la low -- phil lebeau has more on rivian's run. >> rivian is first to market with an electric pickup we have had a chance to drive it we have talked with a number of people who have ordered it a few who have taken deliveries. the vehicle is going to get a lot of attention motor trend have named it truck of the year. think back to their ipo. the r-1t got some of the attention but most of the attention was focused on the fact that this was a company that has a slew of orders from amazon for electric delivery vans yes, that is important the r-1t and the r-1 s, the suv, will be coming out early next year this is all part of the electric pickup truck battle that's brewing. rivian, now the gmc hummer those deliveries are expected to start before the end of the year we know about the f 150 lightning coming early next year and cyber truck later next year. speaking of general motors, with that gmc hummer and those deliveries beginning later this month, that is important because it starts the ultium battery platform it will get a lot of attention once that happens. finally people will say rivi

rivian is revving up, as they win motor trend truck of the year let's get to phil lebeau with the detailswhen people hear it, they say whether it is truck or car of the year, they say wait a second why this did they pick this particular vehicle for the second time in a first two months it is the very first vehicle coming from, and last month it was lucid, now it is the rivian r-1 d and if you do drive it, you will notice that it is an unusual vehicle and in the sense it is not like your typical pickup truck that is what stands out, both in terms of performance and features and many of the unique properties behind it and i think that is one reason why the editors say this stands out a vehicle that we think is a cut above everybody else out there remember, it was picked over the ford maverick, which is an internal combustion, the hummer suv which is electric. nonetheless, a nice award for rivian and the r-1-26 and we'll give an update and reservations on thursday afternoon after the bell that is when rivian reports its complete q3 numbers. they gave us preliminary numbers during the ipo, so

phil lebeau sat down with gm's president to discuss the ramp up to evs and joins us now. >> big day forirst hummer rolled off the line and has already been delivered they made their deadline of delivering hummers before the end of the year. this is the first ev from general motors built on its new ultium battery platform. this is the beginning what have is going to be a rampup of ev sales for the next several years for the u.s. auto industry look at the projection more than 2 million projected annually by 2025 by the way, evs are going to be about 4.5% of the market in terms of sales next year according to gm's president. whether or not we get extra ev incentives from the biden build back better plan is unclear, but the president of sales says they are proceeding even if those incentives don't go through. >> both on a volume and affordable basis for everybody that plan is very much dependent on that. it is an accelerant. that's the way to look at it. >> look at shares of general motors they also have the e sill raddo they will unveil early next year and a slew of vehicles that will be u

our phil lebeau joins us from chicago's o'hare. >> reporter: we just talked with john slatterly he's on a flight with scott kirby promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuel, but he talked with so many airline executives around the world about what concerns they have that omicron, this new variant, might slow down international travel here's what he had to say. >> a little bit too early to call that, but generally speaking, airlines continue to feel that narrow body departures will be back to 2019 levels at the start of and look, i've travelled extensively over the last few weeks. the airports are safe to travel through. and the aircraft themselves. it's one of the safest places. it's the safest place to travel, in my opinion and people want to travel >> obviously, ge aviation has a vested interest in the return of, not only domestic air travel but long-hall travel engine orders up 40% in the third quarter. but when it comes to cleaner burning jets, right now it is much more expensive than ventional jet fuel that cost has to come down for airlines to use saf, as it's referred to.
