it is like the port staff and port itself. people come to the port. it is a good job.t should be a good job. >> i guess there is 15 commissioners. now, it will be 16 for sure, but there is a pretty good location, a pretty good opportunity for people to be a commissioner because it averages, like, a new one every year almost, which is terrific. dianne feinstein gave me my first appointment. so i will always be grateful to her. we have become good friends, and i got another appointment from her, human rights commission. then, mayor jordan appointed me to this commission. prior, he had appointed me to public utilities. then, mayer brown, to me, is the biggest hero on the waterfront. his dynamic personality and leadership and charisma and fortitude -- whatever you call it -- the driving force was really instrumental in the whole waterfront. then, there -- mayor newsom. i had a hunch that the last time he appointed me, it would be the last appointment to the board. he was very open with that. but i did not share that with anybody until just now. item seven a -- a city -- i'm sorry, election of port commission vice-president. resolution 10-53 -- were arrested port commission's rules of order, article one, section 2, states that among the commissioners, a president and vice president will be elected. they will serve a one-year term or until a successor is elected. the elections will be held every year of the first calendar meeting in january and whereas the term of the court commissioner elected vice president has expired july 1, 2010, leaving a vacancy in the position of vice president, now, therefore be it resolved, that as port commission hereby approves, the holding of a special election for a new vice president at its regularly scheduled meeting of july 13, 2010. >> mr. president, before you set the motion on the resolution, i just wanted to explain that the resolution is necessary because the rules for the board calls for the election in january, but under these circumstances, the commission now needs to lead -- the commission vice- president and president can effectively amend the rules of order. >>

unless san francisco develops a new cruise terminal, it will become a has-been at port -- has-been port and will have lost an important element that makes the city and attractive tourist destination. the poor is commended for being able to undertake this project. as we all know, there have been a number of efforts in the past to develop a new cruise terminal here in san francisco. they have been public-private partnerships. today, the port has undertaken to develop this new cruise terminal project as a public- works project, and it should not be compromised to private interests which have failed often in the past. we cannot allow additional delays. delays in getting this facility the city needs for its continued economic vitality. if the project is not progressed in a timely fashion, other ports and the cruise lines will see is on san francisco's to madness and lack of vision in setting -- will seize on san francisco's to madness and lack of vision. in peter's presentation, he pointed out many other non- cruise features of their design. these are added aspects of the project benefit to

the port is doing work on the blue-green way as well. i think this is a key spot for san francisco visitors as well as residents to have an opportunity to explore this area further. a bit of a side note -- i had a bicycle stolen in front of this site. i had a friend's get broken into in front of this site. there was a stabbing at broadway and embarcadero a couple of nights ago. while there is no direct connection to urban planning and crime, it figures that in the dark area is not a great place to be. i think this plan, not specifically the sea wall, but all of the open spaces including lot 314 -- that is the corner of bay and embarcadero -- if we feel this is an important juncture, that one is more important from a traffic point of view. going straight to fisherman's wharf along the waterfront, are going left -- that is a key point. i am applauding the work that was presented and thank you. i want to clarify with the director that there is no action to be taken. that is correct. >> that is correct. it is not that the port of.studies of
