her name is arianna preston. on sunday, she was set to receive their masters of jurisprudence from loyola school of law, but just days before her graduation ceremony, she was shot and killed outside of her home, right as she was returning home from a late shift on patrol. officer preston was one of the best of chicago. at only 24 years of age, she severned the police department for three years and during her time on the force, she worked to build trust between law enforcement and the communities she served. officer preston was inspired to become a police officer after making a trip to europe as part of her undergraduate criminality studies. her class visited former concentration camps in germany and poland, the sites of some of the most atrocities in human history. the stories of the holocaust compelled arianna preston to the change she wanted to see in the world. she wanted to be part of it. in her words, and i quote, when i got back home, i wanted to be an officer. i felt like i could be a person to fight for j
