so when we picked up nearly a quarter of an inch of rain here, just over that in quantico a half an inch of rain you folks in frederick, maryland, and culpepper as well. light rain today. scattered showers. nothing too heavy. things will change by the beginning of the weekend. the skies are clearing. even though we'll start the day with fog, i think we'll clear out quickly as the wind starts to pick you. meanwhile, there's a big storm moving through the west. that storm will be leaded this way. a severe weather outbreak is likely on friday as the storm system moves to the east. it starts feeding on moisture coming out of the gulf of mexico. right now, severe weather looks as though it will be from texas up toward nebraska over to southern illinois and down to mississippi. then we could see some thunderstorms here on friday. i don't think we'll have any severe weather. but thunderstorms are something we haven't seen much of. the reason is because there hasn't been a lot of moisture coming out of the gulf of mexico. that's energy that storms need and tornadoes, too, to form. our count for

warmer temperatures coming back into the forecast. 54 degrees right now here in the city. 55 for quantico. still holding at 60 there. but if you notice martinsburg, they were already at 48 degrees and winds are still blowing pretty good. winds sustained at dulles 22. we're right around 15 here for d.c. once the sun sets though later on this evening, these winds will start dying down just a little bit and by tomorrow we're talking 10 to 15 instead of 20 to 30 mile per hour winds. rain is moving on off. big pocket of cold air aloft. that's created a lot of cloud cover for most of pennsylvania. but you can see here, too, it's also created a little bit of snow. that colder air is coming across the lakes and that's helping to drive a little bit of that. some accumulation kind of blowing around in the upper elevations. no big deal, though. farther up to the northwest, we've had a little bit of cloud cover. it's mostly clear overnight tonight. 42 in the city. easily down into the upper 30s for some of our suburbs. if the winds settle down below 5, it might be colder than that. nice and sunny tom
