rahel solomon is here. this, because there is a macroeffect to this decision. it's not just about the politics or individual loans. there is an economic effect. >> no, there is a macro impact, a microimpact to real people. let's start with macro. the impact to the larger u.s. economy. so the sense is that this will likely not create a significant impact, but it will create an impact. greg bellier, a strategist who essentially looks at the intersection of wall street and main street. and he put it at about a $70 billion hit, annually, to the u.s. economy. he said, it is obviously a headwind. mark zandi, the chief economist of moody's, he looked at gdp and said it's about the equivalent of shaving off a quarter of 1%. so not necessarily significant. that said, if it's your budget, probably feels a bit different. right? wells fargo put it this way, it's a big deal for affected households. not so much less so for broader consumer spending. the average student loan payment, about $210 to $314 according to wells

cnn's rahel solomon here with a read into the numbers. take us into this report.hat are you seeing here? >> this was the first time as you pointed out that this was actually cooler than what economists were expecting, the expectation is closer to 225, 229 and the number came in at 209. the prior two months were also revised slightly lower. taking a look at where we added jobs, u.s. economy added jobs in june, government added 60,000, health care added 41,000, health care is especially interesting because this is an industry that continues to struggle to rehire after the pandemic. part of that is happening here and construction, which is really interesting because of what's been happening with north rates. >> right. >> you would think that maybe construction would take a hit, but not in this report at least. we've been seeing a trend of that 23,000. june jobs report, that coming in for unemployment at 3.6%, that ticked down slightly from 3.7. kate, we've been in in range of under 4% for quite some time now, more than a year and a half. so this is the type of report

rahel solomon joins us now. >> this was better than expected on both fronts? out in the last 12 minutes. both proving better than economists expected. it's a bit of a trend here. the producer price index, the inflation index where the producers of goods and services, not to be confused with the consumer price index. this index increased 0.01 on an annual basis. also increasing 0.1% is better than economists were expecting. the lowest left in three years for ppi. what we see in this data tends to give a sense of what we can expect to see with consumer inflation, consumer prices, the things that we spend. the sense, if it's falling here, it should continue to fall in consumer inflation which of course that report yesterday we saw, rate. jobless claims, this is the most real-time indicator of what's happening in the labor market. this comes out once a week and gives us a sense of how many americans are filing for unemployment benefits. we were expecting this number to actually tick up slightly, but it ticked down to 237,000, ticked down 12,000 from the week prior

rahel solomon joins us now. give it to me. i don't have it in my hands.oing to assume -- >> serious. >> you were being serious. cooling and better than expected, phil and pamela, that is the headline from the report. and if you look at use futures, you get a sense of what the reaction is on wall street. dow futures popped 200 points after this. 3%. the index increasing 3% on an annual basis. it that is better than expected and month-over-month prices increased 0.2%. that is better than expected. inflation a different story. core inflation, guys, when you strip away energy and food, it gives you a better sense of underlying inflation, that index increased 4.8%. so why is this happening? you you look at the chart, that is 1.1% in june of last year. comparing price levels now to then, you can understand that it is a smaller increase, right. so you see a lower figure now. also got some help in categories on a monthly basis airline fares, they went down, used cars, those prices went down and household furniture. on an annual basis, gasoline, remember last year
